I believe you were answered in the Antarctica thread. Siyum is completion, when referred to as "a siyum" its generally referring to a celebration upon completion of something, often in regards to talmudic studies, such as completion of a tractate.

Would this be accurate for Siyum?

When someone calls you a SOB in English, they're not calling your maternal species into question. Not every terminology can be taken literally.

A mamzer is a child born of a union with any of the chayvei krisus, not just an eishes ish. There are a long list of arayos.
