I was asked by a relative in Israel to order one in America, so she asked for an Elph.

Any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

I would like to stay in the $50-$75 range. Its his money!

I'd say a low end Canon or a used camera

Save up so he has $110-$125 which will be wayyyy better than anything you'll find for $50-$75.

Thanks.  My concern is that given his age, the reliability and the durability of these products that it might not be worth the extra money.

Obviously each kid is different. The idea is to learn how to take care of your "toys". That being said you could look into a waterproof camera. They generally can withstand quite a bang compared to others. But you'll lose out on the quality of pics.
