What's the best way to convert my sign-up bonus points to cash?
« on: January 16, 2014, 11:13:59 AM »
The wife an I did a bunch of card signups recently, with the plan to take a trip this summer.  Our financial circumstances have changed and we now are thinking we should forego the trip and try to get cash instead.  Here's what we have(or will have once they are posted):

420 x2 in travel credits(Barclay Arrival)
30k x2 Starwood points(SPG)
~80k Membership rewards points(23k on one 52k on other)
21k x2 Chase UR(freedom cards)

I was thinking we could use the Barclay credits to buy Hyatt gift cards and sell them on cardpool, but that would only net us $357 for a $420 card.  I know we can cash out the MR's for .7c and the UR's for 1c, but can we do better?  And what about the Starwood points?

I'd appreciate any help.

Also I am pretty sure there are ways to get the barclay points into cash without turning them into GC's.

That's what Amex and Chase give you for them in statement credits.

I was under the impression that point brokers weren't interested in accounts with so few points in them, am I wrong about that?

Yep, you can purchase a ticket - cancel, and  get your credits, even you're getting a full refund from the Airline.

You can combine some of those points between husband and wife into one account. UR for sure, I think the MR, too.

UR can combine points between spouses.
MR - usually not, but you can transfer both to 1 airline mileage account
SPG can transfer points to another account with the same address (household)

So you probably have enough points to sell

OP: Try to combine even if the buyer is willing to buy less. The more you have in the account the more CPP you can get.

When UR are in a Freedom account you can't transfer them to other programs, therefor they have no real value besides getting a statement credit. Though you can apply for the Sapphire or Ink cards.

How about If I have all those cards mentioned opened at the same time- will freedom be put together with UR?

You can transfer UR from your Freedom to your Sapphire.
