closing a CC and being able to move the FULL credit line
« on: March 08, 2013, 10:32:17 AM »
I don't know why
But every time i tried to close a cc and move over the credit line,
They always left over around 500 dollars.
Why?
Anyone else have this ?
Is this just as bad as closing a cc without moving over any credit line at all ?
Help

The first time I did this with Chase about 3 years ago they made me leave over a few hundred bucks. Since then I have been able to move over the complete credit line. Is this your first time reallocating credit? Are you moving the credit to a new card to get an application approved? Or just to an existing card to avoid an annual fee?

Did this a few days ago, was told i had to leave $500 in the account. HUCA. I got someone in the next call who transferred it all over. Once again the mighty power of HUCA.

I don't think there's anything bad with having multiple cards open.  Only reason to actually close it is to be able to churn or avoid AF.

I was told you need to have a $0 balance on the CC for 90 days if you want them to move the whole thing over. Otherwise they leave $500 on it.

I could of cared less so I just left the $500

don't believe them...
I just closed an account to move the whole credit line to a new card-1st time that I moved credit with chase.  It had a balance which I paid, and I forgot I had pending transactions-which I paid a couple days later

Yes, just call the number on the back of your card.
Love me or hate me. I still love you.

The back of the new card that I want the line transferred TO, or the old card that I want to transfer it FROM?

As a tangent to this, my oldest card is a chase card. I'm hoping to never have to deal with an A/A, but if they should shut me down, I'd want to avoid losing my oldest line of credit.

Once they remove the exclusives, would it work to do the following: transfer my freedom line to some other random no-fee card that's NOT from Chase, and then just leave it in my drawer so that the line of credit is safe? Then I could re-open my freedom card without fear...

you want to transfer the line of credit  that chase bank has extended to you, to a card that the credit was extended to you from a different bank??

I'm asking if that's possible. From the tone of your response, I'm guessing that's a "No?"

Im sorry i didnt mean to sound like i was poking fun at you. I was just trying to explain why you cant transfer the line of credit from one bank to another.

Not insulted - its a good point, and well explained. Thank you.

I might have seen a possibility of it being otherwise, nonetheless, since your credit history isn't something that's internal to that bank, and it's effect are beyond a particular bank as well.

Is there anything else I can do to avoid the risk of losing my oldest credit line, aside from not playing at all?
