Country/City Travel Safety - Jewish version
« on: June 05, 2013, 01:34:22 PM »
I was wondering if we can start a Master list of the environment in different countries or cities for frum travelers. This way people can decide where to go based on safety which = a more pleasant trip.

For example, I'd like to go to Switzerland which has very high levels of anti semitism but maybe I'd go if people haven't found it to be bad.

If you have gone to some of these cities, can you describe your experiences? How did you dress? Which neighborhoods did you learn to avoid?

Did you have any negative experiences that you'd like to share?

I'm particularly interested in France and Italy as well.
Work is what you do between vacations.

I was in Poland a couple of years ago. The only anti semitism we experienced was in the airport, from a security supervisor. On the streets we were dressed chareidi and the general populace was very cordial some even warm. A couple of older fellas came over to talk to us in yidish and made sure we to reassure us that they always liked jews (?). Some young people on street car offered directions, and a couple walking in a park offered to take pictures for us by a lake. Over all it seemed to be a fairly accepting environment . (though the sane can not be said for all the small towns we visited)

Dude, Switzerland is a lot safer to walk around in a shtriemel than New York is.
