How Do You Search For A Past Topic: ***MASTER THREAD***
« on: June 06, 2013, 09:14:48 AM »
Welcome to the forums.
People here get a little annoyed sometimes when you ask a question when it should have been posted in a different thread. Sometimes people are very nice and they will answer you. Other times they will tell you to search.

What does that mean?

No, it doesn't mean to do soul searching. It means to find the correct thread that discuss the topic you are looking for, and ask your question there.

Ok, but how do I find that thread?

It is very simple. In the top right corner of every page is a blank white box with a small button next to it that says SEARCH.

First you need to put in the correct keywords. For example if you want to know what is the fee on a Sapphire Preferred card, DON"T search "what is the fee on a Sapphire Preferred card" rather search "sapphire preferred fee".

(This was the first listing that came up)

Next make sure you spell the words correctly. Any spelling mistake will not be picked up by the search engine.

Lastly you can search from any page, however if you are in the credit card board don't search airlines because the search engine will only search the Credit Card Board. To search the entire forum you need to be on the home page.

If you find the built in search not to be to your liking, you can search from google. Just type in your search phrase, and then enter site:forums.dansdeals.com to search only this site.

I find this search option to be more effective.
It's not about the quantity of your posts.  It's about the quality.

I think a good idea would be, when showing someone a link to show how you found it.

Like tell them what keywords you typed in to find that link?

I think Rots5 will disagree

Its not stupid. Its just immature to think we all revolve around u. Its in the gavra the mentch! Why do ppl think that they are worthy to start a thread if ones already there!? Whats wrong with the old one. Its felt in da mentch.  Its a chisaron in that person.

"Delta airlines" will show only threads that have the exact phrase.
Delta+airline will find any thread that has the 2 words anywhere in it.
Delta airline will find any thread that has Delta and/or airline.

Clearly a 2010 statement

Let's bring that statement up to date

The search engine TimT is actually extremely smart and powerful.
