HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

Why would people do what was just warned would be cause for a lifetime ban?
For the same reason why people are getting the Architectural Digest for $19.99 with the DANSDEALS Coupon.
You can say what you think when you think what you say.

Does antisemitism come into your mind?
No but being targeted does.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

Nobody was ever told or hinted to that they should go and do this refundable ticket shtick. Were they?
What is the hava amina then to warn people to stop doing something that they were never told to do? (Unless I am missing something here.)

Maybe post a warning not to go to CVS on shabbos. That will also ensure that all miles accrued will not be spent in a happy and productive way. (Except for CV who is doing nothing wrong by doing MS on shabbos.)

Some people are really really thick sometimes.

1. I'm not at liberty to divulge things that people share in confidence.  If they wanted to post everything publicly they would have.  I brought the warning as soon as it was substantiated and now more are coming forward.
People being stupid/careless about fare rules has something to do with this? Get a life.
2. There's a 99.9% chance that AA corpsec is monitoring this thread so posting possible workarounds here is just plain stupid.
3. Unless you can prove otherwise AA will ban you for life for doing this.  Perhaps it's just for AA tickets, perhaps not.  I never said they cracked down for everything but the bear has been poked by too many people and the odds are that it will encompass more than just AA tickets.  We don't know enough yet.
4. AA loves banning gamers, they've been tens of thousands and will be happy to ban more.  They get paid by Citi and get to wipe the mileage liability off of their books.  Free money.
5. I'm done in this thread bl"n. Peace out.

Time to put a warning on the main site?

I think so.... there is so many different factors a little warning even general would be nice.

I thought of this shtick when I was a teenager and got my first card with a spend threshold.  Hardly rocket science.

I thought of the idea and did multiple times (years ago) before even seeing it anywhere
Most people in this game try to think of their own ways to complete the spending req and probably most of them came up with the idea one time or another...

A whole blog post on DDMS spotlighting this ethically questionable activity would garner all the wrong types of attention, both from corpsec and the lemmings who follow DDMS whose reading comprehension often stops three words into the title of a post.

The boat is rocking all by itself, why tip it over?

What about a comment like "Anyone hear about AA accounts being closed for not doing legitimate spend to meet the 10k?"

I think so. Bumping up the AA post with this news has all the cons that members mentioned above. In this case you just tweet "what not to do - updated with current offers  ;)" or something like that. not mentioning anything about AA in the headline. (again tweeting out "don't do AA refundable shtick" would be the best way to inform  most people BUT you have all the cons mentioned above)

My 2 cents.
You can say what you think when you think what you say.

But the shutdowns are occurring so what further risk is there for corpsec to see it, if anything they should be happy if he stands against the practice?
Agreed about the lemmings so maybe he's gotta put the "don't" or "bad idea" in the first 3 words lol.

Exactly my point. You didn't tell them to do it, so why do you have to be the one to tell them to stop?
