HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

Your not gonna believe this! I wanted to cancel my Citi Amex cuz of the AF so the lady convinced me to downgrade the card to the regular advantage the annual fee would be $50 and if I did 5 purchases in 3 months they would wave the $50 dollar fee. After the new card came I realized i didnt want the card cuz no real benefits so called to cancel. SO THE REP TELLS ME YOUR SUCH A GOOD CUSTOMER I'M GONNA SEE IF THEY WILL UPGRADE YOU BACK AND WAIVE THE FEE. HE STARTS ASKING ME SOME INFO AND I ASK HIM" yOUR NOT MAKING ANOTHER APPLICATION RIGHT CUZ I DON'T WANT THAT! SO HE TELLS ME NO ABSOLUTELY NOT. TODAY I GET UP AND THERE WAS 7 PULLS ON EQUIFAX ALL DENIED FOR THE SAME CARD! SEVEN DENIALS ON MY CREDIT REPORT ALL ON THE SAME DAY!!!  ANY ADVICE?????
they'll be merged to one pull. Now have a stiff drink and relax.

Refunding a refundable ticket is also by the rules... which is why a refundable ticket is called refundable, you see?

It's hard to say. Please, describe the exact symptoms of your headache and I will try to asses its value in monetary and miles compensation.

Why didn't you just downgrade to Citi AA Bronze which has no AF?

You really don't see any difference between MS and closing an AF card?
Maybe Chase could explain it to you, They're shutting down long-term-good-standing customers for the sole sin of a big CVC purchase, while they'll perfectly understand why you're closing a card with an AF.

I didn't really need the card kinda just held on to it for the few Amex perks and my wallet was getting too fat. Rather wait and then apply again for the bonus.

If Citi was doing the shutting, I could get that.
Here it is AA doing the shutting.

Yes but I think theres a difference between a purchase for a car that im not returning after the miles post vs buying a ticket from the airline giving the signup bonus and then slapping them in the face by returning it once the miles post.. all im doing is spending without returning and closing the card.

Thank you! That is useful info! 56 days and counting :)
You're gonna have to wait 60 days from the last app, as they count declined apps too.

"No more than 2 Citi applications of any kind in 60 days (65 days to be safe).
No more than 1 Citi business application in 90 days (95 to be safe). This does not override the rules above.

While the day limits are a little flexible by a few days either way and YMMV, the rules themselves are not flexible. Note: In applying the rules above, count all Citi applications, including denials and/or applications for non-AA cards."

What would your car dealer do if Chatzkel Feivel bought a car (AF) with a rebate (100K+$200), and then returned the car and kept the rebate.

Listen folks, time will tell... For your sakes I hope you are all right and I am wrong.

BYW, here is a snippet FYI.
Take it the way you like it.

I'd assume that if it's "AA doing the shutting" they'll be more upset with cancellations affecting their product than with cancellation affecting Citi's product... don't you think so? ???

It was reported upthread that this applies to any refund, not just with AA.
