Many people have also had better luck writing to the office of the President for reconsideration on Citi cards:

HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

Yet somehow Dan was able to pull it off. Although the language seems pretty explicit "This Citi® / AAdvantage® card offer is only valid for new applicants for a Citi® / AAdvantage® account applied for by May 15, 2014, pursuant to this offer and is not available to existing cardmembers or recent applicants for a Citi® / AAdvantage® credit card. "

Dan care to comment?
They can write anything they want, who cares?

I've been churning Citi for over a decade. If you are approved you get the miles. No ifs ands or buts.

I love this site. With the posted batting averages on success on round 3, I decided to jump in for myself and my wife although in NJ and those Experian pulls are painful (especially after freezer died).

The results:

For myself I had closed 1 of the first 2 cards, but no mention of it when I called and easily approved.

For my wife, both cards had been closed and I even had a $8K balance still due before due date, AND SHE GOT INSTANT APPROVAL.

Thanks again Dan and everyone for info and guts to pull this off.

Very nice!
Number 4 anyone?

One of my family members spend about $12,000 on the first statement but only got 8,000 miles. :(
One of the reps I spoke to tried to tell me that not all spending qualifies.

What did he spend on? Also, what did the rep specifically say?

With the loss of VR how does everyone plan on meeting the spend on multiple cards without paying the AF?

VR was one of the easiest ways to meet spends. Was not the only way.

Rep asked if AP is maybe gift cards because she thinks gift cards doesn't qualify. It's amazing how some of them are clueless.

I have heard that AP is problematic with some.  Certainly not the first report.
