HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

Because some people are saying that the welcome letter mentioned the bonus and some people are saying that their letter didn't...
I saw a report of someone with no bonus tracker, no mention in welcome letter, did spend and got bonus.
Who do you think you are fooling? You think you are going to pull a quick one on your Creator? Good luck with that.

There are tons of reports going both ways. There is no definite at this point other then that it is YMMV. Definitely not dead though.

In general , I would love to shoot craps with those odds . Thats why I
questioned the term " crapshoot" .

CMIIAW but I beleive there are more reports of people who followed the procedure properly getting the bonus than not . And a lot of successes prolly not reported .

Applying isn't the crapshoot. The crapshoot is doing the spend after not seeing any indication that you'll get the bonus

Many followed procedures correctly and just had unsuccessful links. I used a link that didn't work for 10+ people but did for me. The "procedure" isn't difficult. Many follow those correctly. Yet, some got the bonus while others didnt. Thus > YMMV.

People have done this 10x and suddenly didn't get it this time.

Correct. Hence YMMV. Because some still are.

I still think it is worth the try because

Hard pulls are overrated.

Have you ever shot craps ?  The odds are you are going home broke . How can you compare the odds of getting 50K for $3k spend , which if done correctly are better  considerable netter than YMMV with the almost certainty of going broke .

Bad analogy of risk reward .

"Crapshoot" is an expression. Are you really saying that it can only be used when the odds are as bad as the odds when you actually play craps?  ???

No. I am simply saying its a very bad analogy  ! IMO its much better than YMMV that people can be very succesful with Citi if they are one  of the more fortunate ones .
As some one who has received over 1M AA miles in 4 years without even starting on DW accounts , if I was selfish  I would discourage everyone from applying properly .
But thats just my opinion .

If I downgraded a WE version of AA Plat. to a Double Cash, does that reset the 18 month clock or no?

My what? You mean the RSVP that I got in the mail? I threw it out. Didn't realize they're transferable.
