HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

I recently closed my AA Platinum Select card when the AF hit. I applied for the CitiBusiness card but got denied. When I called them up, the reason they gave for denying me was credit history. They said I needed 60 months of history with Citi specifically. They insisted that was the reason I was denied and refused to do anything. I recently got about 6 offers in the mail, saying I was preselected for AA card offers, such as the gold card, the platinum card (again) and the business card (again). I figured I would apply for the gold card (no language) but I've been seeing that you can't have any AA cards, no matter which one, if you opened or closed a card in the family recently. Is there any way to get around this? They keep sending me offers...Also, could it be the business card was denied for this reason? I always thought personal and business are totally separate.
if theres no lang. you can get the offer again. business and personal are separate.

Why does it have to be non-expired?

I know there are many DP's suggesting they are good for another 2 months...just thought I didn't want to risk it, but then again beggars can't be choosers

if I book an AA flight with a valid citi AA cc or attach my FFN to the AA flight that is eligible for a free luggage and then cancel or downgrade the card before I actually fly will I still retain that benefit of a free luggage?

Its tied to your FFN at time of checkin. When I canceled my card, within a day or two( I don't remember) my account, no longer said AA cardmember.

I have this card already and I'm thinking of applying for another one. I got it in 2011 when it was a Visa but Citi changed it to MC less than 24 months ago. Since I got a new card number, does that mean I'm not eligible for the bonus if I apply for this offer? I haven't opened or closed any AA cards in the past 24 months otherwise.

You'll receive a decision by mail.

A system error has caused a delay in processing your application. Be assured that we have received it and there is no need to resubmit. We will contact you at the mailing address you provided as soon as it is processed. Thank you!

Any idea what that means?

No, but I ran into several declines on new cards in the beginning for purchases of $500+ with Citi and BOA, after using for a while for smaller purchases it was OK.

Yea, similar thing happened to me. I ended up just waiting a while and using for a few small purchases, then finishing the spend.
