HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

What AJK meant is that you said, "Just got another 2 cards last week, looking forward to more of the same"
18 months from now
Well I was able to get 2 every six months the last time Citi had an "18 month policy", so I don't see why now should be different.

Just did it last Friday.
You get two hits on CR, but you always do for personal and business, even if using 2BM.

+1
I don't know that to be the fact, but why not play it safe.

100K AA miles is worth two hits IMO.
And, I can't recall ever actually being denied for a CC because of too many inquiries on CR, except once by Barclay's.
[Sure, I have to put in some more effort with Chase recon.]
So, I don't pay hits too much attention.

Why not just cancel it, considering that Citi wont transfer CLs?

On a different note, can you get Personal+Business+the 450 annual-fee one?

Personal+Business every six months.
Because the 18 month thing was just urban legend.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

just got the "official" denial letter, here it is:

Quote
Thank you forapplying for the Citi(R) Platinum Select(R) /
AAdvantage(R) Visa(R) Signature account.  Unfortunately, we are
unable to approve your request for the account at this time
 because of the following:

o   This specific offer is valid only for first-time Citi(R)
/ AAdvantage(R) cardmembers.  Our records indicate that
you already have a Citi(R) / AAdvantage(R) account with us.

 Here's what you should know
Our credit decision was based, in whole or in part, on
information obtained in a report from the following consumer
 reporting agency:

 Equifax Credit Information Service......

BTW, I had experian frozen...
On my first app, they pulled from both, so if they would have not pulled the first time from equifax, think I would have been approved yesterday? thoughts?

If I call for reconsidration, and tell them I need a second card for separate spending vechulu, and claim that "I don't need the promotion, just the card" ;)... what do you think will happen? will they approve me? do they have the option of approving the card and takeh removing the bonus, or is my sevorah a good one?

From "Here's what you should know" is just standard language of an acceptance or denial letter. The reason for your decline is in the second paragraph, IMHO.

So what was the truth?
IME, if you give it a full 6 months between applications, you're good.
If you give it less than six months, you will keep getting denied, irrespective of whether previous application was approved or denied.
(I am obviously not talking about the last three months or so, just the period before then.)

Good call.
But, you could cut him some slack when he actually practices what he preaches.
