HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

It is 110k for 450 at this point.

I get the 110K. I don't get how it's $450.

and still well worth it imo
That is for each to decide.
Only on DDF does 24/6 mean 24/5/half/half

You cancel now and get back 450 but risk the 110k. You make the call.  :)

ETA: The 200 credit is in your pocket so that does not come into play.

Bottom line, how risky is it to shut with a negative miles balance?
1) Very
2) Seriously YMMV
3) Meh, wtvr, do it and stop worrying.
4) Absolutely no risk, Citi does not communicate with AA ever.

You bought an AA refundable ticket and you get double miles.

You get 2PPD for any spend on AA and that's what this is for.

He just assumed you purchased refundable tickets.

When you say a negative miles balance, do you mean per CC or per AA account? For example if my CC is closed with a negative miles balance, but my AA account still has more than the negative amount of miles, is that included in your question or is that safe?

That's only if he's asking specifically about refundable tickets and in that case it would be AA communicating with Citi not the other way around. His question, however, was about negative mile balances in general, in which case I think #4 would be a viable option.

You don't need a refundable ticket to end up with a negative mile balance. Who in this thread closed their AA account with a negative mile balance? All the talk is about the Citi account having a negative mile balance. #4 is wrong, end of story!  >:(

Me, but I haven't talked about it so much. And with a $15 negative mile balance I doubt it matters, but if something happens ill let you know.

I meant if someone created a negative mile balance with a vendor other than AA. AFAIK there are no reports of being shut down.

Chill!

Don't know if this helps you at all but the phone rep told me exactly those words during a reconsideration phone call.... " we will only move credit when reconsidering a diff card" but others have successfully moved so I guess it's YMMV

There is no way to expedite; they'll post second statement. You're either stuck paying the annual fee or risk losing the 100K.

But, seriously? You guys are going to risk 100K for $250?
Is there a chance of it posting sooner or if it didn't post by now that's when it will happen?

When applying for the second card, do I put in the same AA account or is it like chase UA and I make a new account? TIA
