HT: FT

Citi in NY pulls from either Equifax or Experian or both. YMMV even by the same person.

If you live in NJ or NY, you should freeze your Experian. They will only pull Equifax then. Otherwise, YMMV.

FOR MORE INFO, READ FT'S WIKI - IT IS PHENOMENAL, FT WIKI

Quote from the above mentioned FT WIKI:
For the most part, freezing Experian, or another bureau, will not cause Citi to pull a different bureau. They will almost certainly require you to unfreeze the bureau they wish to pull or deny your application. Some people have been successful providing the PIN but others have not. Mostly, freezing a credit bureau in an attempt to force Citi to pull a different one seems to waste time, money, and effort for little result. But YMMV.

DDF data points (As of 10/2015)
NY- pulls both EQ/EX, can still get instant approval with EX frozen
CA, OH, PA, TX- ONLY EX. Citi will refuse to pull other bureau

Benefits:..
New no forex fees starting Nov.'15

From FT Wiki:"Important exception: If you receive a Platinum World MC which is later converted to a World Elite MC (as indicated on the back of the card), the opening of that card will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule. This is true not only for conversions in early 2015, but also for those in more recent months.
Note: It makes no difference when (or whether) you activate the World Elite card. If you have the WE card in hand, then the conversion on Citi's books is already complete. There is nothing magical about activating it.
There are a few reports that some Gold World MC are being converted to Gold World Elite MC and that will no longer count for purposes of the 18-month rule."
UPDATE: As of 02/18/2016 (for applications after 02/09/2016), the W>WE loophole may be dead.

Plenty of reports about this up thread. Don't be surprised though if the card comes today as well.

Is the $450 charge applied to dollars spent on the card for the $10K?

Its a fee, doesn't count as money spent.

Nothing complicated, just apply for the card, enter your AAdvantage number on the application so your miles will be deposited there,

Closing the 1st card has nothing to do with applying for the 2nd, you actually might wanna keep it open when applying for the 2nd so you can shift some credit limit on to the new one.

And how in the world can I justify that to the csr if they ask

Can the card be cancelled before the annual fee posts? How is it done? (with getting the signup bonus..) Are there any potential negative ramifications for doing so?

You don't need to cancel before the AF posts, you have 37 days from when it posts to get a full refund.

And can that be done after the mileage posts?
Are there any downsides to doing that, or any reason not to?
