No website can see the MAC address of the PC or router.

If your IP address changes, and your cookies are cleared, the website will not know it is the same PC/user.

(There are many ways to change an IP address, whether on a wireless connection or a standard cable or DSL connection.)

The website might be able to connect the new user to the old if you enter similar information, such as name/address/e-mail address/credit card number/etc. as they have on file for your old account.

OOC, why would someone not want Amazon Payments to know they are the same person as a previous account holder? What benefit is there?

I think any public WiFi you sign into can see your Mac Address - just by looking at the URL that comes up when I open up the browser.

Any WiFi (or other) router you login to will indeed see your MAC address. But no website on the public Internet ever sees it.

IMO prob not the issue with your FR...but here is your answer.  Are you the boss?  If it is a static IP, call the ISP, but they may charge you, and you may need to hire an IT guy (is DH around) to change your router settings.  If it is a dynamic IP, it has probably changed already, but you can unplug your DSL or Cable modem and plug it back in.

static IP means the IP address always stays the same.  Some ISPs will automatically give a business account one, others will charge for it.

dynamic IP means the IP address changes (sometime it may be daily, sometimes you might have the same IP for an extended period of time).  Usually you can 'force' getting a new IP by restarting the ISP's modem (not your own Linksys, Dlink, etc...the other box you have).  After doing this, you may need to restart your own router as well.
Is that clearer, or do you still have questions?

I doubt the IP is the reason for the FR. in big office buildings, hundreds or even thousands of people can connect to the interwebs going out with the same IP. did you open those cards in incognito? Because that would make a little bit more sense, that they know your computer by the cookies.

Does putting a phone into airplane mode and back into service change the IP address for anyone connected to it as a hotspot? (Regarding amazon payments)

Even if it would, it would only change the private IP address given to that specific device, not the public IP that the internet sees.

+1, and most routers will lease the same (local) IP again, anyways.

That is a different question.  Airplane mode (or rebooting) should give you a new ip.

Essentially is the IP address dependent on the computer you using or does it change depending on the source of your internet connection? Your router vs diff peoples router?
