Poconos, PA, Master Thread

Why does everyone think that they can use the term poconos to ask a question in general? Its like asking where you can find a restaurant in "New York".
I'm sure scranton has a minyan and Chapman's Lake has a minyan then. Those are both the "Poconos".

Possibly, but theres no proper group or anything for everyone in town to talk tk each other. I can try and find something if you want but I doubt I'll find something. In September I'm sure many people wont be there anymore so there will be open cottages but not everyone rents. They usually have a minyan till Yom Kippur, but sometimes not.

Its not a pool, its a lake. I'm not so sure what you mean by central eating place. Everyone owns their own cottage. There is a small hall you may be able to rent for a small check. Nothing here has ever been set up as a fully rentable cottage rather some people rent out their places sometimes.

Mayne next summer I'll open a kosher vrbo/airbnb for the tristate area.

Did you find something yet? I ended up in Arrowhead Lake, in case you couldn't tell from my earlier questions. There were 2 decent options from your recommendation, but they were a little more expensive, and weren't part of a community (ie you're stuck with whatever is on the property).

No, but directly on the lake. The 2 we found from your recommendation both had 14' diameter round above ground pools. It's nice to have, but it's not that hard for me to find someone's pool like that to use at home. I prefer the lakefront in that regard.

i guess it depends on what age children you have. i wouldnt feel comfortable with my kids in a lake

They won't be swimming in the lake (at least it's unofficially allowed). The house comes with a 4 person pedal boat and 2 kayaks, and I can rent more. There's a little dock to fish off of (and cheap gear for rent there as well). I think for me though it's more about the setting. The house has a massive deck spanning the side facing the lake. It also happens to face west, which means sunset over the lake.

Personally, swimming in a small round pool like that is no מעלה. For the kids, all but one are young enough that we're comfortable sending them to the community pool, with the women watching them. If it turns out to be empty, the men might come as well. Plus, we can beg/borrow for pools near home often enough, and the kids swim in camp. I'm not going to the Poconos primarily for the swimming.

so i was also weighing the benefits of a beautiful lakefront property vs. pool property and for me the pool won primarily cuz the kids want to swim together and we dont use public pools.

if youre looking for minyan then hunter or tannersville is your best bet. if you go on a weekday or have your own minyan (or not) i found beautiful places in saratoga area and kingston
