They don't. I actually drove down there and I confirmed 4 times that day that they had it and it turned out they sold it 2 days before.

Who said I'm in Brooklyn? :)

I'm in Lakewood. So the answer would be, my driveway.

Happens in every industry where people just talk without knowing / checking what they are talking about.
Unless that's part of the sales tactic? Get a consumer in the door by any means necessary, since once they already shlepped in, they'll possibly buy something even though it's not what they really wanted.

If someone calls 4 times (or even 1 time if you're doing your job properly), check your systems and give accurate info..

The thing is they checked their systems when I came in, too, and said they had it. It was only after I negotiated and wanted to sign, that they realized that they had none left in the warehouse. "Their system wasn't updated".

Whatever. My kids had a trip.   :P

Was a day after Yom Tov, so that made for a very tired me the next day. :)

It's possible that it was genuinely a mistake in this case, but it can also be a deliberate tactic sometimes.

A couple years ago I had a salesman put me on hold while he went to check for a specific feature that I asked about on a car that I was considering buying, he came back after going outside to the car and said yes, I drove an hour to test drive the car and lo and behold it didn't have that feature. When I said that I had no interest in it because it didn't have that, he unabashedly tried selling me a different used car with said feature (at a much higher price).

I once went to a dealership to test drive a car that very few had with a V6 engine. Got in the car in their dark garage and started driving outside into day light with the salesman. Once we got outside I said - this seems much roomier than I expected.

His response - oh you wanted that model in a V6?
