That's a lie. There is no sales tax on EV's in NJ period. Follow up with the finance department. The issue is you won't qualify for the $4,250 rebate because the dealer is in NY. Technically, the text of the law doesn't say that it must be from a NJ dealer, but that is the way they implemented it.
I took it form a NJ dealer.

Going over my lease agreement, I see that you are right, nowhere does it mention tax on the rebate.
and it clearly states monthly sales/use tax $0 (although perhaps you can argue, the $0 is only on the monthly payment, not on the rebate.)

I reached out to the sales person, he told me someone from the finance department will get back to me........I don't have high hopes.
It looks like I got taken on a ride, anything I can do now?

You could try filing a claim with the BBB if they are accredited

I did record the whole conversation, where he clearly says he has to charge me tax on the $14,000 rebate.
Anything I can do with it, or once I signed tough luck?

Do you have a clear source, that I can show to them?

Do you have a clear source confirming that?

This page on nj.gov seems pretty clear.

New Jersey's Zero Emission Vehicle (ZEV) Sales Tax Exemption

"Legislation enacted in New Jersey in January 2004 provides a sales tax exemption for zero emission vehicles (ZEVs), which are battery-powered or fuel-cell powered vehicles certified pursuant to the California Air Resources Board zero emission standards for the model year."

ETA: the full  vehicle list by year here does list the Ioniq.

The salesperson claims that
Even though there is no sales tax on EV vehicles, they consider the rebate as a cash rebate, so you have to pay taxes on that.

It says they are not affiliated with the BBB but can't hurt to file a claim, it could still do some work for you

$500 down (including 1st months payment)
$199.93 monthly. After the rebate I'm effectively paying $90. Meh.
Which dealer?

Ah, I thought you said you went to PAL. You can send a copy of of your lease agreement here (minus any indentifying details). We can try to see what exactly you were charged.

There isn't $14,000 in finance incentives. There are charging stations. It just takes time to charge. Much longer than to fill up a tank of gas. It does poorly on highways. Does great in the city and in traffic, because it recaptures most of the energy used.

1. are you saying when they say 170 miles per charge is that 170 miles wherever you drive or depends if you are sitting in traffic so that 170 miles becomes less?
2. How much damage waiver did car come with? was that sufficient? did you have option to buy higher waiver?

it’s prob a copy, paste job so not really sure how that can be proved. The difference is higher monthly payment, longer lease term and lower monthly mileage 😊
If you have the document they took the signature from, a forensic expert should be able to prove it's the same signature that was copied onto the contract.
I wonder what people who type "u" instead of "you" do with all their free time.

The AGs office may be able to help.

An EV gets better mileage in traffic.

For a base bolt that means very little dealer discount. Especially if you also have supplier/education/first responder

how is the 1500 divided? Even the 5k damage waiver is limited in per part of the car damaged. (So if you have 5k of damage on the bumper, and the rest of the car is pristine, they wont cover it...)
