Just called Amex. Rep said chat is down and there are no updates as to when it will be up again.

The Chat doesn't always work. I have tried numerous times at different times and days... It's only when there's a rep available.

Just go to the pay bill screen, stay there for a couple of minutes and then"chat now" button will appear.

Easiest way is to go to the secure message center and answer no (that they don't hep you) on several answers and it will appear. Always has for me.

I personally have found that chat doesn't work often on Chrome.

In Firefox, on the top right of the bill pay page, it usually shows up within 1 minute.

The bill pay method just worked for me twice in Chrome.
I didn't time it, but it did pop up after about a minute or so.
