   [th]Area - Address [/th]
   [th]Supervision[/th]
Tierra Sur At Herzog Winery in Oxnard 5/5 stars-The menu here is constantly changing but is always amazing.  The flavors you will try here are unlike any you will get at another kosher restaurant in the world.
Oxnard -

La Gondola4.5/5 stars
-Avocado eggrolls to die for (I had it and I didn't like it
I can't eat Avocado when it's warm, I'm sure others can't too-Sillypainter).  Great Bread with garlic margarine on the house(agree-Sillypainter) Great Gondola Burger special for lunch with excellent pasta or a soup.  And the Chai Steak with Carmelized Steak Sauce and arguably the best kosher ribs out there.   I'm getting hungry thinking about this place!
Pico

Meatos - https://meatos.us/

http://charcoalgrillbar.com/

Shiloh's4/5 stars
-Great baby back ribs and peppercorn steak.  They serve steaks with a number of dipping sauces which is pretty cool.  Also had some delicious key lime pie.
I did have a bad experience here with really bad food though...and service can be poor here as well.
Beverly Hills Thai4/5 stars-It can get very crowded so it's best to make a reservation in advance.
Jeff's 3.5/5 stars-Homemade onion rings, homemade sausages, Steak Sandwich, Western burger, lots of good and greasy stuff here.
PKD (Pico Kosher Deli)3.5/5 stars
-Excellent Deli-style food along with equally good homemade onion rings. No Reservations, but rarely more than a few minute wait. closes at 9 PM.
Pat's3/5 stars
-Either you love this upscale steakhouse or you hate it.  I used to hate it until my brother became good friends with the bartender.  Now when I go back with him we're treated to a feast for a king! Don't miss the bread pudding dessert!
Shanghai2.5/5 stars
-LA hasn't had very good Chinese since Sholom Cuisine closed.  This place is decent though.
Harissa4/5 stars-Home of the LA-famous pretzle challah! They offer Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/North African cuisine.  They have lots of seating and long hours.

Milk/Parve:

1. Fish Grill
4.5/5 stars
-The best fish you'll ever have, period.  I'm not such a fish person, but their Grilled Salmon on Angel Hair Pasta with a huge order of well-seasoned fries...YUM! Get the grilled salmon sandwich.

2. Milky Way Reopened, brand new place worth a visit
4/5 stars
-Steven Spielberg's adorable mom will come shmooze with you and show you his movie posters in the back.  Cheeze blintzes and lemon tart are awesome. Chimichangas, potato latkes, and more all at prices that haven't been raised in decades.

3. Pizza Nosh (Agoura Hills)
4/5 stars
-Excellent pizza and Eggplant Parmesean, worth a stop if you're in the area.

4. Pizza Mayven
4/5 stars
-Good plain pizza and excellent fries, and that's about it.

5. Nagila Pizza
3/5 stars
-Good but pricey stuffed crust pizza, and that's about it. There are some big fans of their Naco's out there as well.

6. Trattoria Natalie
4.5/5 stars
-A trattoria is translated from Italian as a tavern, and that's what this restaurant feels like.  They have a cool on-table feature: its a paging device with three bottons.  One botton calls for water, the other for the bill, the last for a waiter.  The food is very good and prices not too expensive.

7. Meshuga for Sushi/Meshuga for Sushi 2
4/5
-With 3 locations (one in La Brea, one in Pico, and one in the valley), they offer great sushi at reasonable prices.  They have some space to eat in the restaurant.  They have long hours and a decent lunch menu.

IF you eat non-CY:
-Sweet Rose Creamery, on Beverly is Kosher and considered some of the best ice cream in LA by foodies http://www.sweetrosecreamery.com/, usually have 4 or 5 non dairy flavors
-Toppings Frozen Yogurt 349 S Robertson Blvd, good frozen yogurt, usually have a non dairy flavor or two

If you eat CY:
-Milky's at 1429 S Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035 recently became kosher and is cholov yisrael.

Breakfast/Bakery:
1. Cafe Elite
4.5/5 stars
-Amazing cake/crumb donuts along with your usual breakfast food.

2. Schwartz Bakery/Circa NY
4/5 stars
-A great but expensive bakery.  The crumb cheese danish is a personal favorite, as is their wonderful Caramel cake and "kit kat" chocolate rice crispy bars.
They also now serve breakfast in their Pico and Fairfax location.  I had the combo Pancake+Waffle+Franch Toast meal with fruit salad that was very good.
On friday's only they sell raspberry cheese pockets - they always sell out of them early.

3. La Brea Bagel
3/5 stars
-Very good bagels with all kinds of toppings and other breakfast food.

4. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - 7235 Beverly Blvd
4/5 stars
-The only coffee bean in LA that has Cholov Yisroel upon request and offers 3 Pas Yisroel bakery items from Delice; Chocolate Almond croissant, Custard twist, and chocolate croissant - also upon request.

SHABBOS TAKE OUT OPTIONS

1. Ralph's - both the Pico and La Brea locations have a kosher section with takeout
2. PKD: http://www.pkdla.com/soon.htm
3. Western Kosher on Pico: http://www.orderstart.com/westernkosher
4. Lieders La Brea: 129 N La Brea Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90036
5. Lieders Takeout, 8721 W. Pico Blvd, supposed to be excellent, check FB page for hours, (Shabbos Food LA: http://www.shabbosfoodla.com/)
6. Ariel's glatt has a nice selection - NE corner of La Brea and Beverly
7. Got Kosher has very ethnic style shabbat take out- lots of Moroccan food.

What's the latest weekday shachris in LA and where.
I was told 2 weeks ago that Chabad has 9:15 but I haven't verified that myself.

And any advice on the hotel? Or just suck it up at the crowne plaza for the week? Again- don't want to have to hike to Shul on shabbos. Want the hotel near the Shul.

And someone should have a restaurant that offers meals on shabbos. I called around. No one does it in LA. NYC and Miami have it.

And am I missing anything- again I've been to most of these. Wife was never in LA/SD-

Universal
Grove
Santa Monica for sunset/walk
All the food places (la gandola. Tierra sur, ditmas, fish grill, etc)
Hollywood blvd

Sea world
Jet skiing
Coronado biking
Petco park
Gaslamp district

Any ideas for activities/sights on Motzei shabbos in LA?

Sorry. Lots of questions. Just want to be prepared.

General rule on a forum is the fewer questions you ask in a post at a time the more likely you'll get a good response.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Did you take a look at the wiki for hotels near shuls? Not many activities on motzei shabbos besides 3rd St. Promenade and/or the Grove. There's Comedy Sportz, but it's not unique to LA.

And I saw the wiki. Doesn't say which Shul is close by. Tried google and research but couldn't figure it out. I did as much research as I can before heading to the forum.

Crowne Plaze or Residence Inn are very close. Hyatt Regency is not too far of a walk.
Quaerite et Invenietis.

The yellow dots are shuls, the green stars are SPG hotels, the yellow beds are other hotels. Find Pico Blvd (for a high concentration of shuls) and see which hotels are nearby. People stay at the ones just mentioned in addition to others like the SLS.

Crowne Plaza/Residence Inn are the closest to shuls (3 min walk or less to the closest ones).

Oxnard has a Chabad that has minyanim on Shabbos, but I don't know about during the week.

Restaurants do not serve meals on Shabbos in LA, but there are a number that do have very good Shabbos take out (PKD, Lieders, Abba's).

Sorry. Lots of questions. Just want to be prepared.
Santa Monica pier+right near there is third street promenade (very big outdoor shopping mall/street w/ street performers, etc.)
Rodeo Drive ($$$$$$$$$$$$$$ shopping  :D)
Drive up the PCH towards Malibu and stop at the Fish grill on the PCH
Really nice beach off the PCH called Zuma beach that was totally deserted the times we went there
Disneyland/ California Adventure
If you like outlet mall shopping and are going to Tierra Sur then about 20 min away is a huge outlet mall called Camarillo premium outlets

As far as Motsei Shabbos, not sure what you guys are into, but in all my experience in LA I have not found much to do there then but they just recently opened a D & B there which I went to and it was pretty good - If you are looking to pass time.......
(here is the address
LA / Westchester, CA
6081 Center Drive
LA / Westchester, CA 90045
Phone 310-846-9950)

Finally there is a place that is not very well known to visitors (it's more of a locals thing) for great views looking over the city of LA (at night it is quite magnificent)-Its a lookout point at a restaurant (not kosher) called Yamashiro (http://www.yamashirohollywood.com/) when you get up there they will valet your car but tell them you are coming just to see the view not to eat.

As far as San Diego, there is an island called Catalina Island off the coast (you take a ferry to get there), google it because once on the island there is alot to do (i think there is also a casino there........)

Catalina is off the coast of Long Beach/LA County, not San Diego. Coronado is off of San Diego, but you don't need a ferry to get there. The bridge or road from the main land works just fine, although they do have passenger ferries available too.

I meant to write something to do on the way down to San Diego from LA and I was referring specifically to Catalina Island which is accessible only by ferry

Don't expect to find a minyan for shachris to late. The latest is usually around 830 AM in Beis Yehuda (corner of Oakwood and La Brea), sometimes you can scrape a minyan together at 9-but it's not always guarnteed.

If you have AAA or a friend that does (because in my experience when I pre purchased these tickets online and printed them out using my fathers AAA account they did not ask me to see the card when I entered the park -but I dont take responsibility to guarantee that), anyway here is a link for that http://memberdiscounts.calif.aaa.com/offer/index/offerId/137405/uSource/CPOP1/categoryId/130/subCategoryId/622

Hope this works for you!! Enjoy your trip!!!
I was there for the past 3 weeks and not a single day did i not daven after 930 in Baais Yehuda with a minyan

They  just opened a Dave and Busters on Hollywood and Highland so kill two birds with one stone and get to see the whole scene going on while you are at it.

Hey, newbie here. I just booked a trip to LA for me and my wife around New Year's  for 4 nights(using 50k United points one way, and buying 2 tickets for $174 each the other way, not sure if that was smart but it didn't seem too bad).

I still have 31,000 SPG points and am not sure the best way to work out hotels. I know I can stay near the airport at Sheraton Gateway LAX for 7k SPG points a night, but I'd really like to stay within walking distance of Pico/Robertson area for shuls/restaurants rather than having to drive a half hour every time. I definitely need to stay in that area for at least shabbos. The SPG pickings are pretty slim as I don't have nearly enough points for the SLS Beverly Hills. I'm willing to stay at any of the hotels in the area (Mr. C, Crowne Plaza, Residence Inn, Best Western. In that order of preference).

Any ideas on how to get the best deal? I also have Chase Ultimate Rewards points but it seems like it would be the same as me converting it to cash instead of getting a good deal. I could also use help getting a rental car, but one thing at a time I guess.

Thanks so much for any help anyone can offer!!

Welcome to DDF. You can use UR to stay at the Intercontinental or Hyatt in Century City which is walkable on shabbos. Otherwise the Crown Plaza and Residence Inn will be your best bet for paying cash. both are within a 5 minute walk to shuls, markets, and restaurants. Mr. C is nicer than both, but really expensive, so it probably won't work for you.
