   [th]Supervision[/th]
Tierra Sur At Herzog Winery in Oxnard 5/5 stars-The menu here is constantly changing but is always amazing.  The flavors you will try here are unlike any you will get at another kosher restaurant in the world.
Oxnard -

La Gondola4.5/5 stars
-Avocado eggrolls to die for (I had it and I didn't like it
I can't eat Avocado when it's warm, I'm sure others can't too-Sillypainter).  Great Bread with garlic margarine on the house(agree-Sillypainter) Great Gondola Burger special for lunch with excellent pasta or a soup.  And the Chai Steak with Carmelized Steak Sauce and arguably the best kosher ribs out there.   I'm getting hungry thinking about this place!
Pico

Meatos - https://meatos.us/

http://charcoalgrillbar.com/

Shiloh's4/5 stars
-Great baby back ribs and peppercorn steak.  They serve steaks with a number of dipping sauces which is pretty cool.  Also had some delicious key lime pie.
I did have a bad experience here with really bad food though...and service can be poor here as well.
Beverly Hills Thai4/5 stars-It can get very crowded so it's best to make a reservation in advance.
Jeff's 3.5/5 stars-Homemade onion rings, homemade sausages, Steak Sandwich, Western burger, lots of good and greasy stuff here.
PKD (Pico Kosher Deli)3.5/5 stars
-Excellent Deli-style food along with equally good homemade onion rings. No Reservations, but rarely more than a few minute wait. closes at 9 PM.
Pat's3/5 stars
-Either you love this upscale steakhouse or you hate it.  I used to hate it until my brother became good friends with the bartender.  Now when I go back with him we're treated to a feast for a king! Don't miss the bread pudding dessert!
Shanghai2.5/5 stars
-LA hasn't had very good Chinese since Sholom Cuisine closed.  This place is decent though.
Harissa4/5 stars-Home of the LA-famous pretzle challah! They offer Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/North African cuisine.  They have lots of seating and long hours.

Milk/Parve:

1. Fish Grill
4.5/5 stars
-The best fish you'll ever have, period.  I'm not such a fish person, but their Grilled Salmon on Angel Hair Pasta with a huge order of well-seasoned fries...YUM! Get the grilled salmon sandwich.

2. Milky Way Reopened, brand new place worth a visit
4/5 stars
-Steven Spielberg's adorable mom will come shmooze with you and show you his movie posters in the back.  Cheeze blintzes and lemon tart are awesome. Chimichangas, potato latkes, and more all at prices that haven't been raised in decades.

3. Pizza Nosh (Agoura Hills)
4/5 stars
-Excellent pizza and Eggplant Parmesean, worth a stop if you're in the area.

4. Pizza Mayven
4/5 stars
-Good plain pizza and excellent fries, and that's about it.

5. Nagila Pizza
3/5 stars
-Good but pricey stuffed crust pizza, and that's about it. There are some big fans of their Naco's out there as well.

6. Trattoria Natalie
4.5/5 stars
-A trattoria is translated from Italian as a tavern, and that's what this restaurant feels like.  They have a cool on-table feature: its a paging device with three bottons.  One botton calls for water, the other for the bill, the last for a waiter.  The food is very good and prices not too expensive.

7. Meshuga for Sushi/Meshuga for Sushi 2
4/5
-With 3 locations (one in La Brea, one in Pico, and one in the valley), they offer great sushi at reasonable prices.  They have some space to eat in the restaurant.  They have long hours and a decent lunch menu.

IF you eat non-CY:
-Sweet Rose Creamery, on Beverly is Kosher and considered some of the best ice cream in LA by foodies http://www.sweetrosecreamery.com/, usually have 4 or 5 non dairy flavors
-Toppings Frozen Yogurt 349 S Robertson Blvd, good frozen yogurt, usually have a non dairy flavor or two

If you eat CY:
-Milky's at 1429 S Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035 recently became kosher and is cholov yisrael.

Breakfast/Bakery:
1. Cafe Elite
4.5/5 stars
-Amazing cake/crumb donuts along with your usual breakfast food.

2. Schwartz Bakery/Circa NY
4/5 stars
-A great but expensive bakery.  The crumb cheese danish is a personal favorite, as is their wonderful Caramel cake and "kit kat" chocolate rice crispy bars.
They also now serve breakfast in their Pico and Fairfax location.  I had the combo Pancake+Waffle+Franch Toast meal with fruit salad that was very good.
On friday's only they sell raspberry cheese pockets - they always sell out of them early.

3. La Brea Bagel
3/5 stars
-Very good bagels with all kinds of toppings and other breakfast food.

4. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - 7235 Beverly Blvd
4/5 stars
-The only coffee bean in LA that has Cholov Yisroel upon request and offers 3 Pas Yisroel bakery items from Delice; Chocolate Almond croissant, Custard twist, and chocolate croissant - also upon request.

SHABBOS TAKE OUT OPTIONS

1. Ralph's - both the Pico and La Brea locations have a kosher section with takeout

When I was there a couple of weeks ago there was a part of PCH that was closed. Maybe see if that is still the case, maybe that's why it won't route you though.

ETA: Might have to do with this:

When I drive from LA to Oxnard I took the PCH till it closed then went up to the highway the rest of the way. Was still worth it and the drive from the PCH to the Highway was quite amazing. Through the mountains and hills.

Best lounge is the *Gold Business lounge in TBIT, but you need time to transfer between terminals and access to the lounge. Otherwise you're stuck with the United Clubs in T6 or T7.

just noticed this. T6 lounge is closed.

Los Angeles terminal consolidation
Starting in October 2014, all United departures and most arrivals will use LAX Terminals 7 and 8, with some international flights arriving at the International Terminal. Check flight status for your gate location. Premier Access® check-in at LAX has been relocated from Terminal 6 to Terminal 7, and as of October 27, the United Club in Terminal 6 will close.

Weekend TR to LA.

UA1455 EWR-LAX. Landed at 11.30 and took the bus to National Rental lot. Got a 2015 dodge challenger for 30/day. It’s a fun car to drive but not practical if you want to use the back seats (its two door). It took about 10-15 minutes to get to the Four Points Sheraton Culiver City. I would rate this hotel a 3/5 overall. Theres nothing special about it and the rooms are not too big but for 7k points it was ok. Thursday morning we headed to Venice Beach and rented bikes for $7/hour. Its $20 for the day so if you’re a big biker this is a good value. After that we headed to a small airport in Torrance, CA. We rented a plane from South Coast Aeronautics 8183045246. They send a pilot to teach you the controls and then he takes off for you. Once I was in the air, he let me steer, turn etc. I have never flown before and it was an awesome experience. We covered the Hollywood sign, downtown LA, the stadium, Universal Stadium and Santa Monica pier. Only one person can fly in addition to the pilot and you can have 2 people in the back. Total cost was $129 and it was well worth it.

We then headed out to Tierra Sur for a 5:00 reservation. It took is 2 hours to get there in traffic. We were promptly seated and the menu was explained by the knowledgeable waitress. For appetizers we got pastrami balls and duck duet. Both were great and fresh. For main we got ribs which was great too. Of course for dessert we had zapoli’s and flourless cake, which were amazing 10/10! Overall, I would rate it 4/5. I think that the portions were more on the smaller side. Because I was driving I did not do any wine tasting. I am sure that someone that has an appreciation  for wine would have a great experience in the bar area.  We then headed to the Grove which took about an hour and a half. Honestly, while the food was great, I cant see myself traveling so far to eat here. It may be easier if someone was in the area (boating or shopping) or maybe on a Sunday when traffic is lighter.

The Grove is a nice place to hang out and they had it decorated for the Chinese new year. Friday morning we headed to Santa Monica for Segwaying. It cost $84 pp for a 2 hour tour. IMHO it was worth every penny. It was just my wife and I so we had the guide to take pictures and show us all the nooks and crannies. We went all the way down the Venice Canals which makes for an amazing picture spot. I would definitely recommend this. After that we headed to Rodeo Drive. Its basically a bunch of fancy shops, none which anyone here can afford. The cars here are insane and its just a cool place to check out. Shabbos we spent by a friend.

Motzo Shabbos we headed to Hollywood Blvd. most of it was blocked off due to the Oscars, which was this past Sunday. Honestly, I would tell people to skip this on their trip. Its only tourists and drug smelling hippies selling ‘stuff’. Not enjoyable at all. We made a stop at pizza maven which was great pizza and fries.

Sunday morning we ate breakfast at La Brea Bagel. I am really disappointed in this place, though maybe in LA theirs a lack of a better option (In Hancock park area). A breakfast ‘special’ is 11.95!!! (its 4.50 in Lakewood for something double as good). We then headed to City Walk at Universal. It’s a nice place to hang out and you can stock up on some decently price souvenirs. After that we headed towards Beverly hills. As we were passing the Beverly Hills hotel we noticed a line of limo’s outside. We decided to try out luck and pulled into valet. The valet opened our doors and handed us a ticket! Inside it was packed with people in gowns heading to the Oscars. We hung out there for a while J.

We then headed for a 5pm reservation at La Gandola. The restaurant ambiance is nice and we were promptly seated. We got the chai steak and sesame chicken salad. Both portions were massive, with the salad getting special mention for being great 5/5. The steak on the other hand, I give 2/5. It was served on a hot steel plate that is supposed to keep it hot as you eat it. I just found myself trying not to burn myself and it was quite annoying. Eventually I asked the waited to bring me a separate plate. Besides for that, the meat was tough and not at all good. I was sorely disappointed. Someone should update the wiki……  The fries that came with it were excellent. For dessert, the waiter brought all the options to the table and let me choose. That was interesting and they made one fresh from my choice. Cake molten with ice cream,5/5. After dinner we headed back to LAX for our return flight. Dropping off by national was hassle free and before you know it we were sitting in the crowded united lounge. The lounge had the typical stuff and its nothing special. Took the red eye at 9pm (delayed till 10.30) and landed at 6.30am to the bitter winter cold.

Till next time….

p.s. I have pictures for just about everything if anyone’s interested.

Weekend TR to LA.
....
....
I was sorely disappointed. great TR.
yes we want to see some pics.
funny pizza mayven. for bagels, Elite Bagel on the corner of La Brea and Beverly is good. Plus great donuts. (fried donuts and cake donuts)

And, if Tierra Sur was so great, then you'd really like Ditmas. You can include that in your next trip to LA  -- sounds like you'd prefer their steaks, too.
