   [th]Area - Address [/th]
   [th]Supervision[/th]
Tierra Sur At Herzog Winery in Oxnard 5/5 stars-The menu here is constantly changing but is always amazing.  The flavors you will try here are unlike any you will get at another kosher restaurant in the world.
Oxnard -

La Gondola4.5/5 stars
-Avocado eggrolls to die for (I had it and I didn't like it
I can't eat Avocado when it's warm, I'm sure others can't too-Sillypainter).  Great Bread with garlic margarine on the house(agree-Sillypainter) Great Gondola Burger special for lunch with excellent pasta or a soup.  And the Chai Steak with Carmelized Steak Sauce and arguably the best kosher ribs out there.   I'm getting hungry thinking about this place!
Pico

Meatos - https://meatos.us/

http://charcoalgrillbar.com/

Shiloh's4/5 stars
-Great baby back ribs and peppercorn steak.  They serve steaks with a number of dipping sauces which is pretty cool.  Also had some delicious key lime pie.
I did have a bad experience here with really bad food though...and service can be poor here as well.
Beverly Hills Thai4/5 stars-It can get very crowded so it's best to make a reservation in advance.
Jeff's 3.5/5 stars-Homemade onion rings, homemade sausages, Steak Sandwich, Western burger, lots of good and greasy stuff here.
PKD (Pico Kosher Deli)3.5/5 stars
-Excellent Deli-style food along with equally good homemade onion rings. No Reservations, but rarely more than a few minute wait. closes at 9 PM.
Pat's3/5 stars
-Either you love this upscale steakhouse or you hate it.  I used to hate it until my brother became good friends with the bartender.  Now when I go back with him we're treated to a feast for a king! Don't miss the bread pudding dessert!
Shanghai2.5/5 stars
-LA hasn't had very good Chinese since Sholom Cuisine closed.  This place is decent though.
Harissa4/5 stars-Home of the LA-famous pretzle challah! They offer Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/North African cuisine.  They have lots of seating and long hours.

Milk/Parve:

1. Fish Grill
4.5/5 stars
-The best fish you'll ever have, period.  I'm not such a fish person, but their Grilled Salmon on Angel Hair Pasta with a huge order of well-seasoned fries...YUM! Get the grilled salmon sandwich.

2. Milky Way Reopened, brand new place worth a visit
4/5 stars
-Steven Spielberg's adorable mom will come shmooze with you and show you his movie posters in the back.  Cheeze blintzes and lemon tart are awesome. Chimichangas, potato latkes, and more all at prices that haven't been raised in decades.

3. Pizza Nosh (Agoura Hills)
4/5 stars
-Excellent pizza and Eggplant Parmesean, worth a stop if you're in the area.

4. Pizza Mayven
4/5 stars
-Good plain pizza and excellent fries, and that's about it.

5. Nagila Pizza
3/5 stars
-Good but pricey stuffed crust pizza, and that's about it. There are some big fans of their Naco's out there as well.

6. Trattoria Natalie
4.5/5 stars
-A trattoria is translated from Italian as a tavern, and that's what this restaurant feels like.  They have a cool on-table feature: its a paging device with three bottons.  One botton calls for water, the other for the bill, the last for a waiter.  The food is very good and prices not too expensive.

7. Meshuga for Sushi/Meshuga for Sushi 2
4/5
-With 3 locations (one in La Brea, one in Pico, and one in the valley), they offer great sushi at reasonable prices.  They have some space to eat in the restaurant.  They have long hours and a decent lunch menu.

IF you eat non-CY:
-Sweet Rose Creamery, on Beverly is Kosher and considered some of the best ice cream in LA by foodies http://www.sweetrosecreamery.com/, usually have 4 or 5 non dairy flavors
-Toppings Frozen Yogurt 349 S Robertson Blvd, good frozen yogurt, usually have a non dairy flavor or two

If you eat CY:
-Milky's at 1429 S Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035 recently became kosher and is cholov yisrael.

Breakfast/Bakery:
1. Cafe Elite
4.5/5 stars
-Amazing cake/crumb donuts along with your usual breakfast food.

2. Schwartz Bakery/Circa NY
4/5 stars
-A great but expensive bakery.  The crumb cheese danish is a personal favorite, as is their wonderful Caramel cake and "kit kat" chocolate rice crispy bars.
They also now serve breakfast in their Pico and Fairfax location.  I had the combo Pancake+Waffle+Franch Toast meal with fruit salad that was very good.
On friday's only they sell raspberry cheese pockets - they always sell out of them early.

3. La Brea Bagel
3/5 stars
-Very good bagels with all kinds of toppings and other breakfast food.

4. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - 7235 Beverly Blvd
4/5 stars
-The only coffee bean in LA that has Cholov Yisroel upon request and offers 3 Pas Yisroel bakery items from Delice; Chocolate Almond croissant, Custard twist, and chocolate croissant - also upon request.

SHABBOS TAKE OUT OPTIONS

1. Ralph's - both the Pico and La Brea locations have a kosher section with takeout

If you decide to go the the Malibu area, there is also another place to visit called the Adamson House http://www.adamsonhouse.org/ It's located just across the street from the Fish Grill Malibu (next to the famos Malibu Pier).  It's an old house you can take a tour of for $7pp (for adults) $2 or $5 for kids, that was built in the Moorish style.  It's really cool (both temperature and interestingly) to walk through and enjoy the amazing beach views as well as it's on the water.  It's a little known secret in Malibu.

I thought the Getty and the Getty Villa are pretty touristy - plus the Villa gets the beach and Fish Grill all in the same day.

I did not mean that he should just do the Adamson house, but if he's in Malibu and already went to the pier and the Fish Grill, the Adamson house might be a good idea.  Personally, I don't think the Getty Villa or Adamson house would be a good place for kids no older than 6 as they're more adult venues.  Since when do kids like walking around a museum?

To clarify:  The SLS and Andaz hotels are not located within the Pico-Robertson or La Brea/ Hancock Park communities.  There are a number of (non-Starwood) hotels in the Pico area, but walking from the SLS or Andaz on Shabbos could be a bit of a schlep, especially if it's hot in the summer.

maybe I will stay in a local hotel in pico and hook myself up with meals... What hotel is really close to the jewish area?

3rd St Promenade is near the Santa Monica Pier.  It's a very touristy place to walk around with street entertainers.

Coffee Beans are all kosher, non-chalav yisrael (except the one on Beverly Blvd and Alta Vista) and are located all over the city.  You can stop by there to get either coffee (Ice Blended's are a nice treat in the summer).  A tip for getting cheaper drinks:  Order the size larger then you want and ask them to split it into 2 cups.  You'll get 2 cups of the smaller size each 80%-90% full!

The stars homes is a waste of time.  Who cares?  Instead, drive or walk up and down the streets of Beverly Hills North of Santa Monica Blvd to see some really nice homes.  Alternatively, there's also a trolly tour in the summer that goes through BH showing you many interesting and large homes for only $5pp.   It's an outdoor trolly on wheels with a narrated tour.  It leaves hourly from the corner of Dayton and Rodeo in Beverly Hills.

Universal City Walk is like 3rd St Promenade with more expensive parking ($12 vs free or $2), but you might want to see it if you're into Universal.

The Grove is nice to visit.  It's an outdoor mall modled after a European street.  They have a music synchronized water show on the hour and a trolly (on a track) to take you through the mall).

Venice beach is full of weirdos does weird things.  They are for the most part not tznius and can be frightening for very small kids.  It's bound to be packed though and a good place to go if you want to see the Shul on the Beach over there.  It is a famous beach, so IMHO visit at your own discretion.

Why can't a baby wear a lifejacket??

Disneyland has fastpasses.  You shouldn't need to wait in any lines with it.  In fact you can hire a helper from Disney for the day that will even run around getting fastpasses for you and help out with kids, etc (at least they offer this in Orlando for sure, doublecheck in LA).
Disney in LA also has California Adventure, with many rides/activities they didn't see in Paris.

There is an eiruv in LA and the SLS is in between La Brea and Pico, so I'd assume it covers the entire area, but I'm sure someone else will chime in to confirm.

Disney hast fastpass, but its limited to one ride at a time, in Paris they sold a vip fastpass for 50 Euros, I got onto every ride the whole day without waiting... anyway I dont wanna do disney again. with legoland and bellmont park, i did my share of fun parks. not going to the westcoast for fun parks...wanna see the place

The 2 BR in La Brea is too small for you guys?
I stayed in a Pico hotel via Priceline once and it was just wretched.  The bed was among the worst I've slept in.

As LAXTraveler said:
The LA eruv does indeed cover the area where the SLS is located (www.laeruv.com).  HOWEVER, there are no shuls nearby (1 mi or less).  There are also no shuls near the Andaz West Hollywood.

If you wanted to stay in one of the Jewish communities for Shabbos, I'd make a posting on hillygram.com, the greater LA area's daily email (and website) for just such situations.  People are often on vacation in the summer and wouldn't mind letting you stay in their house if you have some sort of references.

thanks for the tip... If I post then everybody gets it via email?

See mansions?  Walk around Highland and June in the jewish areas of Hancock park/La Brea.
The stars houses will be shrouded behind walls and trees and you'll see nothing.

True, the star's homes won't be visible.  The trolly tour doesn't show you their current homes, though.  They show you cool homes, for example, a house in BH without and right angles (all walls, doors and windows are curved) and a house that looks like a gingerbread house from a movie set. The houses in Hancock Park and to the east are magnificent (and many frum people live there too).  Also, many foreign dignitaries live there as well as the mayor, Antonio Villaraigosa.

Yeah I will have a look at it. Does not look amazing, but could do for shabbes. Dont know if the owner will want to rent out for 2 days only, probably will want to rent for longer periods during this high season time

The listing name is actually a big dansdeals chosid, definitely worth a shot playing that up.  And the listed min stay is 2 days.

If they'll rent just for shabbos the SLS or Andaz WeHo are both excellent choices for the rest of the time.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

See mansions?  Walk around Highland and June in the jewish areas of Hancock park/La Brea.
The stars houses will be shrouded behind walls and trees and you'll see nothing.
i dont think the houses west of rimpau can be considered mansions...

Agreed.  I meant the streets between Highland and the country club.
