   [th]Area - Address [/th]
   [th]Supervision[/th]
Tierra Sur At Herzog Winery in Oxnard 5/5 stars-The menu here is constantly changing but is always amazing.  The flavors you will try here are unlike any you will get at another kosher restaurant in the world.
Oxnard -

La Gondola4.5/5 stars
-Avocado eggrolls to die for (I had it and I didn't like it
I can't eat Avocado when it's warm, I'm sure others can't too-Sillypainter).  Great Bread with garlic margarine on the house(agree-Sillypainter) Great Gondola Burger special for lunch with excellent pasta or a soup.  And the Chai Steak with Carmelized Steak Sauce and arguably the best kosher ribs out there.   I'm getting hungry thinking about this place!
Pico

Meatos - https://meatos.us/

http://charcoalgrillbar.com/

Shiloh's4/5 stars
-Great baby back ribs and peppercorn steak.  They serve steaks with a number of dipping sauces which is pretty cool.  Also had some delicious key lime pie.
I did have a bad experience here with really bad food though...and service can be poor here as well.
Beverly Hills Thai4/5 stars-It can get very crowded so it's best to make a reservation in advance.
Jeff's 3.5/5 stars-Homemade onion rings, homemade sausages, Steak Sandwich, Western burger, lots of good and greasy stuff here.
PKD (Pico Kosher Deli)3.5/5 stars
-Excellent Deli-style food along with equally good homemade onion rings. No Reservations, but rarely more than a few minute wait. closes at 9 PM.
Pat's3/5 stars
-Either you love this upscale steakhouse or you hate it.  I used to hate it until my brother became good friends with the bartender.  Now when I go back with him we're treated to a feast for a king! Don't miss the bread pudding dessert!
Shanghai2.5/5 stars
-LA hasn't had very good Chinese since Sholom Cuisine closed.  This place is decent though.
Harissa4/5 stars-Home of the LA-famous pretzle challah! They offer Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/North African cuisine.  They have lots of seating and long hours.

Milk/Parve:

1. Fish Grill
4.5/5 stars
-The best fish you'll ever have, period.  I'm not such a fish person, but their Grilled Salmon on Angel Hair Pasta with a huge order of well-seasoned fries...YUM! Get the grilled salmon sandwich.

2. Milky Way Reopened, brand new place worth a visit
4/5 stars
-Steven Spielberg's adorable mom will come shmooze with you and show you his movie posters in the back.  Cheeze blintzes and lemon tart are awesome. Chimichangas, potato latkes, and more all at prices that haven't been raised in decades.

3. Pizza Nosh (Agoura Hills)
4/5 stars
-Excellent pizza and Eggplant Parmesean, worth a stop if you're in the area.

4. Pizza Mayven
4/5 stars
-Good plain pizza and excellent fries, and that's about it.

5. Nagila Pizza
3/5 stars
-Good but pricey stuffed crust pizza, and that's about it. There are some big fans of their Naco's out there as well.

6. Trattoria Natalie
4.5/5 stars
-A trattoria is translated from Italian as a tavern, and that's what this restaurant feels like.  They have a cool on-table feature: its a paging device with three bottons.  One botton calls for water, the other for the bill, the last for a waiter.  The food is very good and prices not too expensive.

7. Meshuga for Sushi/Meshuga for Sushi 2
4/5
-With 3 locations (one in La Brea, one in Pico, and one in the valley), they offer great sushi at reasonable prices.  They have some space to eat in the restaurant.  They have long hours and a decent lunch menu.

IF you eat non-CY:
-Sweet Rose Creamery, on Beverly is Kosher and considered some of the best ice cream in LA by foodies http://www.sweetrosecreamery.com/, usually have 4 or 5 non dairy flavors
-Toppings Frozen Yogurt 349 S Robertson Blvd, good frozen yogurt, usually have a non dairy flavor or two

If you eat CY:
-Milky's at 1429 S Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035 recently became kosher and is cholov yisrael.

Breakfast/Bakery:
1. Cafe Elite
4.5/5 stars
-Amazing cake/crumb donuts along with your usual breakfast food.

2. Schwartz Bakery/Circa NY
4/5 stars
-A great but expensive bakery.  The crumb cheese danish is a personal favorite, as is their wonderful Caramel cake and "kit kat" chocolate rice crispy bars.
They also now serve breakfast in their Pico and Fairfax location.  I had the combo Pancake+Waffle+Franch Toast meal with fruit salad that was very good.
On friday's only they sell raspberry cheese pockets - they always sell out of them early.

3. La Brea Bagel
3/5 stars
-Very good bagels with all kinds of toppings and other breakfast food.

4. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - 7235 Beverly Blvd
4/5 stars
-The only coffee bean in LA that has Cholov Yisroel upon request and offers 3 Pas Yisroel bakery items from Delice; Chocolate Almond croissant, Custard twist, and chocolate croissant - also upon request.

steve it def takes more than 15 mins from hp to lax. at least 25 with no traffic

Highland to La Brea continue straight Right on Stocker till it ends make a left then a right on LaTeja and left on Avation or Airport which ever has the rental returns on it. Thats w/o traffic, longest way I-405 to I-10 to LaBrea., look at a map you will add 10 miles to the trip taking the 405/10 combo

+1, I go the exact same way, La Brea>Stocker>La Cienega>La Tijera>Airport.
Having lived in LA for a few years, I've never seen anyone able to do that in 15 minutes though.

Also I'm not sure how Hancock Park to LAX can possibly be shorter than Pico/Robertson to LAX as you just take Pico>La Cienega>La Tijera>Airport and you're much closer.

its 30 mins with the 405/10 combo. and I will admitt it took me close to an hour last Sun as I missed the Right at night onto stocker and then trying to do some U turns ended up with no turns allowed so backed up and used a different street only to find myself back at 10 and decided not to try it again and went with the 405/10

But its a breeze and much faster then the 405/10 and seems as if it all it took was 15 mins, next time I will time it to be sure. I was heading there @ 11pm, no traffic what so ever and the lights were almost always green

that Valeo gas staion on LaBrea just before the 10 seems lately to be the cheapest gas around, yes even cheaper then United up on LaB & Pico 5 cents cheaper last week at least

its very funny you mention that steve. i was also convinced for many years that it was only a 10-15 drive. (i would go at night sometimes just to switch up the rental car). until i timed it. i guess the clear roads at night is deceiving.

Nothing fancy, but you can stay at the Westin LAX for 3K-4K SPG per night.

Id say see if C&P is available that way its 4k & $60 and youd get 2 nights lodging 2 a cat4

for a Cat 4 and 10k either Sheraton Delfina in Santa Monica or Westin Bonaventura DownTown 10k (both most likely charge for parking

 Nicest Id say is the SLS a cat6 20k or 8k & $150 (+ parking)

 then either W Hollywood or Westwood both cat 5s 12k or 4800 pts & $90 (+ parking)

Thanks Steve. Sorry for being so ignorant, but what is the C&P? I'm assuming this place would be nicer then the Westin LAX?

It's cash and points.
For a category 4 hotel you need 4,000 points and $60 per night.
Cash and points are not available for all dates, you need to check online and/or call the hotel and SPG to see if you can get them for your desired dates.

To be Honest I havent stayed at either The Delfina or LAX Westin (I usually do the 4P @ LAX ) but Santa Monica offers alot to do within walking distance of teh hotel including a GREAT sunset from Ocean Ave a couple of blocks from the Hotel

If I remeber correctly theres limited free parking at the Hotel, but it sure beats staying at an Airport Hotel

Now on FT The Westin gets alot of negative reviews, yet a freind who stays there alot doenst understand why as he finds it to be OK, but it is after all an Airport Hotel

I dont know time wise but the Delfina is on Pico Blvd but all the way West and traveling East on Pico will get you to Restaurant Row in apx 20-30 mins depending on the time of day and the lights and all the kosher palces you will need.

under the conditions U set if C&P was avaialble Id go to the Delfina for 2 nights rather then use 10k for 1 free night, thats is as Dan said if its avaialble for C&P

Santa Monica can be a 20 minute drive to Pico/Robertson without traffic or easily an hour drive with traffic.
Sometimes during traffic I take the I-10, sometimes surface streets like Pico or Olympic, but either way LA traffic is just bad news, especially when you're hungry for some dinner!

C&P for 2 nights sounds like good plan for Delfina.

What's a good plan B if that hotel is not available?

Also if you don't mind me asking, why would you stay at 4P at LAX if from the sounds of it you can stay at nicer and don't seem to be big fan of airport hotels as you wrote?

Thanks Dan and Steve for your time and advice.

I stay at the 4P since Im paying I need to requalify every year for Plat, so till I do that I wont use C&P unless the rates are very high, so when in Brussels last month it was some 300 Euro so hello C&P and 4k and $60 (charged $52). Also I travel 99% of the time by myself so I dont need the fancier trimings and the cheapest Rate Wins. On top of that now SPG has the 3 Stays = 1 free weekend night (Fri/Sat/Sun) up to and including a Cat6. So when last week at the 4P LAX it was on a $69 rate, Id be nuts not to do it

A good PlanB is a good question for me it would simply be any Hotel within an hours drive or a Hilton or Marriott. For U on the other hand maybe The Westin in Pasadena the meteres start up I think at 8am but its free overnight or $14  aday for Hotels Valet. Pasadena is anice place to walk around as well the old town. If all else fails Westin LAX

But in your mind (or from what you've heard), it worth spending extra $60 a night and going to Delfina over Westin LAX which is just 4K points?

But in your mind (or from what you've heard), it worth spending extra $60 a night and going to Delfina over Westin LAX which is just 4K points?
What are your dates?

guess you havent been out in LA yet.

what I like is that the Delfina is in SM and theres the 3rd ave promenade a pedestrian shopping street. Ocean Ave is high above the PCH (hway that runs up to Malibu) and is lined with Palm trees and theres places to sit and watch the sunset over the Ocean. sure you could always simply head there but I like the idea of simply walking out of ones Hotel and being right there. Walk out of the Westin and youre no where, Thrifty is on 1 corner and some commerical buildings across Century Blvd and its seedy but safe behind it

If I was with my wife Id chose Delfina for its location and IMO opinion well worth the extra $60, if you wont avail yourself to the SM surroundings at all, then go for the Westin

Its a personal thing that depends on what you want to do, no one but YOU can make that decision, and of cause what is available and what isnt on SPG

Planning a 2-3 day getaway with my wife in winter. I see SM having the benefits that you say.

Just a relaxing trip. Some resteraunts, maybe a day in Disney....

The wife enjoys the detail and niceness of hotels so one last question (I hope):

Is the Delfina beat the W Hollywood or Westwood that you mentioned as far as hotel itself? I see the W Westwood has good ratings on trip advisor. Is downtown (besides parking) a plus or minus? Again, this is a pleasure trip.

There's nothing remotely interesting in downtown LA unless you're going to a game at the Staples Center.

The W Westwood will run you 12K points per night and I think the C&P is pretty rare there.
The Delfina is in a nice area and is probably the best bet with good C&P availability.
But I still usually go to the Westin because it's a bargain at 4K per night and they've always upgraded me to a suite.

The Hyatt Andaz is an excellent hotel with very close proximity to kosher restaurants if that's an option.  I've stayed there on FFN's a couple times and have had only good experiences.

LA for me is all about the great restaurants and the shopping.

Disney is very expensive, probably $80 per person for a one-day hopper pass.  There are other parks also like Six Flags, Universal Studios, Knotts Berry Farm, etc.

Also the free Getty Museum is worth checking out even if you're not an art fan just for the views, architecture, and the gardens.

winter time OK thats something else depending when as although LA doesnt get as cold as NY it can get to 40.

also the sunsets wont be anything like what they are in the Summer and well walking around is easier cooler just not teh same

But still I prefer the area over LAX any day if I was traveling with a woman.

W Hollywood is like staying at Times Sq Id try to avoid that if at all possible. W westwood is another case and is in a very residental area and UCLA is around the corner , its also closer to the Pico area an dis Ultra Modern and HIP and some nights is PACKED with the 20 & 30 somethings in the Bar area and dancing etc etc I think Thurs-Sat nights

Now using the free weekend certs Id use them at the SLS or W Westwood wouldnt blow the pts and would go to Delfina especially on C&P

Now I can like vanilla and dislike chocolate and you can have the opposite taste

I aslo dont know your age nor where you stand Religiously = maybe hitting a W when its poping you rather stay away from or could be youd rather be teher.
