   [th]Rating[/th]
   [th]Description[/th]
   [th]Area - Address [/th]
   [th]Supervision[/th]
Tierra Sur At Herzog Winery in Oxnard 5/5 stars-The menu here is constantly changing but is always amazing.  The flavors you will try here are unlike any you will get at another kosher restaurant in the world.
Oxnard -

La Gondola4.5/5 stars
-Avocado eggrolls to die for (I had it and I didn't like it
I can't eat Avocado when it's warm, I'm sure others can't too-Sillypainter).  Great Bread with garlic margarine on the house(agree-Sillypainter) Great Gondola Burger special for lunch with excellent pasta or a soup.  And the Chai Steak with Carmelized Steak Sauce and arguably the best kosher ribs out there.   I'm getting hungry thinking about this place!
Pico

Meatos - https://meatos.us/

http://charcoalgrillbar.com/

Shiloh's4/5 stars
-Great baby back ribs and peppercorn steak.  They serve steaks with a number of dipping sauces which is pretty cool.  Also had some delicious key lime pie.
I did have a bad experience here with really bad food though...and service can be poor here as well.
Beverly Hills Thai4/5 stars-It can get very crowded so it's best to make a reservation in advance.
Jeff's 3.5/5 stars-Homemade onion rings, homemade sausages, Steak Sandwich, Western burger, lots of good and greasy stuff here.
PKD (Pico Kosher Deli)3.5/5 stars
-Excellent Deli-style food along with equally good homemade onion rings. No Reservations, but rarely more than a few minute wait. closes at 9 PM.
Pat's3/5 stars
-Either you love this upscale steakhouse or you hate it.  I used to hate it until my brother became good friends with the bartender.  Now when I go back with him we're treated to a feast for a king! Don't miss the bread pudding dessert!
Shanghai2.5/5 stars
-LA hasn't had very good Chinese since Sholom Cuisine closed.  This place is decent though.
Harissa4/5 stars-Home of the LA-famous pretzle challah! They offer Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/North African cuisine.  They have lots of seating and long hours.

Milk/Parve:

1. Fish Grill
4.5/5 stars
-The best fish you'll ever have, period.  I'm not such a fish person, but their Grilled Salmon on Angel Hair Pasta with a huge order of well-seasoned fries...YUM! Get the grilled salmon sandwich.

2. Milky Way Reopened, brand new place worth a visit
4/5 stars
-Steven Spielberg's adorable mom will come shmooze with you and show you his movie posters in the back.  Cheeze blintzes and lemon tart are awesome. Chimichangas, potato latkes, and more all at prices that haven't been raised in decades.

3. Pizza Nosh (Agoura Hills)
4/5 stars
-Excellent pizza and Eggplant Parmesean, worth a stop if you're in the area.

4. Pizza Mayven
4/5 stars
-Good plain pizza and excellent fries, and that's about it.

5. Nagila Pizza
3/5 stars
-Good but pricey stuffed crust pizza, and that's about it. There are some big fans of their Naco's out there as well.

6. Trattoria Natalie
4.5/5 stars
-A trattoria is translated from Italian as a tavern, and that's what this restaurant feels like.  They have a cool on-table feature: its a paging device with three bottons.  One botton calls for water, the other for the bill, the last for a waiter.  The food is very good and prices not too expensive.

7. Meshuga for Sushi/Meshuga for Sushi 2
4/5
-With 3 locations (one in La Brea, one in Pico, and one in the valley), they offer great sushi at reasonable prices.  They have some space to eat in the restaurant.  They have long hours and a decent lunch menu.

IF you eat non-CY:
-Sweet Rose Creamery, on Beverly is Kosher and considered some of the best ice cream in LA by foodies http://www.sweetrosecreamery.com/, usually have 4 or 5 non dairy flavors
-Toppings Frozen Yogurt 349 S Robertson Blvd, good frozen yogurt, usually have a non dairy flavor or two

If you eat CY:
-Milky's at 1429 S Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035 recently became kosher and is cholov yisrael.

Breakfast/Bakery:
1. Cafe Elite
4.5/5 stars
-Amazing cake/crumb donuts along with your usual breakfast food.

2. Schwartz Bakery/Circa NY
4/5 stars
-A great but expensive bakery.  The crumb cheese danish is a personal favorite, as is their wonderful Caramel cake and "kit kat" chocolate rice crispy bars.
They also now serve breakfast in their Pico and Fairfax location.  I had the combo Pancake+Waffle+Franch Toast meal with fruit salad that was very good.
On friday's only they sell raspberry cheese pockets - they always sell out of them early.

3. La Brea Bagel
3/5 stars
-Very good bagels with all kinds of toppings and other breakfast food.

4. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - 7235 Beverly Blvd
4/5 stars
-The only coffee bean in LA that has Cholov Yisroel upon request and offers 3 Pas Yisroel bakery items from Delice; Chocolate Almond croissant, Custard twist, and chocolate croissant - also upon request.

SHABBOS TAKE OUT OPTIONS

1. Ralph's - both the Pico and La Brea locations have a kosher section with takeout

Why assume when you can google?
No idea which of these might have meals available, try asking all 3 depending on how far you're willing to walk.

0.8 mi to Chabad on Wilshire

1.5 mi to Chabad on 17th

1.6 mi to Chabad on Montana

as I said I simply looked at the map you linked to and with my PC being very slow tonight and having some probs all day long went the easy way

the only other choice would be the YI of SM which I believe is right on the Venice Boardwalk, not really a Shabbosdicker atmoshere and judging once again from a map probably a longer walk then to the furtherest chabad. The YI of SM is in a senior center store front so meals doesnt look like it will be a happenin

If you're looking for happening I'd wager that Chabad on 17th is the place to be.

knowing aarony he probably wants as he posted , hed prefer simply not eating in his Hotel room and would pay Chabad for the meals, happening isnt something hes into nor is he a Chabadnick

So if there was an orthodox shul closer to his Hotel that offers Shabbos meals in its building, Bingo. since that really isnt going to be the case I take it he was hopping that maybe theres a chabad like in HNL or VCE wheer theres a Minyan and Meals

Id take it if there was a shul say 3 miles away hed simply go to chabad since it would be closer

I guess if they dont have meals like HNL he could always try and get invited to the Rabbis house and join them

I think from his post that he Needs to be in SM and that area and The Fairmont was the cheapest of the Hotels in the area he needs to be in.

at least thats how I took his post

The BG is no longer around anyway

Never used them, but Simon's La Glatt on Fairfax is pretty good for Shabbos food as well.

Yup, they also have Shabbos take out and are on my LA "must-eat" list:
LA area eateries that I can recommend along with a short blurb about things I've tried at each place.

Meat:
1. Tierra Sur At Herzog Winery in Oxnard
5/5 stars
-The menu here is constantly changing but is always amazing.  The flavors you will try here are unlike any you will get at another kosher restaurant in the world.  Costco sells a 2 pack of $50 Gift Cards for Tierra Sur along with free wine tasting for 2 for just $79.99.

2. La Gondola
4.5/5 stars
-Avocado eggrolls to die for.  Great Bread with garlic margarine on the house. Great Gondola Burger special for lunch with excellent pasta or a soup.  And the Chai Steak with Carmelized Steak Sauce.  I'm getting hungry thinking about this place!

3. Shiloh's
4/5 stars
-Great baby back ribs and peppercorn steak.  They serve steaks with a nuber of dipping sauces which is pretty cool.  Also had some delicious key lime pie.
I did have a bad experience here with really bad food though...and service can be poor here as well.

4. Jeff's
3.5/5 stars
-Homemade onion rings, homemade sausages, Steak Sandwich, Western burger, lots of good and greasy stuff here.

5. PKD (Pico Kosher Deli)
3.5/5 stars
-Excellent Deli-style food along with equally good homemade onion rings.

6. Pat's
3/5 stars
-Either you love this upscale steakhouse or you hate it.  I used to hate it until my brother became good friends with the bartender.  Now when I go back with him we're treated to a feast for a king! Don't miss the bread pudding dessert!

7. Shanghai
2.5/5 stars
-LA hasn't had very good Chinese since Sholom Cuisine closed.  This place is decent though.

Milk/Parve:
1. Milk & Honey
4.5/5 stars
-Excellent Eggplant Parmesean, and really good brown bread with nuts and fruit in it along with a yummy tomato dip.  They used to have an al-you-can-eat brunch on Sunday for about $20 with free Champagne, not sure if they still do that.

2. Fish Grill
4.5/5 stars
-The best fish you'll ever have, period.  I'm not such a fish person, but their Grilled Salmon on Angel Hair Pasta with a huge order of well-seasoned fries...YUM!

3. Pizza Nosh (Agoura Hills)
4/5 stars
-Excellent pizza and Eggplant Parmesean, worth a stop if you're in the area.

4. Pizza Mayven
3/5 stars
-Good plain pizza and that's about it.

5. Nagila Pizza
3/5 stars
-Good but pricey stuffed crust pizza, and that's about it.

3. Delice Bakery
4/5 stars
-Very good, but very overpriced french pastries.  The Creme Brulee, the Lemon Tart, and the Lemon Meringue Pie are all excellent.

4. La Brea Bagel
3/5 stars
-Very good bagels with all kinds of toppings and other breakfast food.

That's about what it's worth too.

i should be able to get meals from chabad, got a very nice email response from them.  Seems they make a big kiddush for shabbos lunch as well.  I will prob just buy some food from one of the takeouts to supplement, in case kids are hungry etc...

I am really looking forward to our stay in santa monica - hopefully being away from everything (jewish) will give us a chance to restup before our redeye back to NY.

I would like some comments on our itinerary (which is a work in progress)

travelers are myself, wife and two boys age 10, one girl age 8.

fly on AA out of LGA on August 9th arrive monday evening in LAX.  right now we are booked on a 3:40 flight that connects in Nashville with only a 30 min time window.  that was the only ticket i could get on miles using BA for five passengers.  I am hoping to use AA's same day travel policy and change our flight to an earlier flight that connects in ORD or DFW.  This will cost $50*5 but is worth it if it gets us in early in the day especially since i am nervous about the small connection window in BNA.

Renting car from Alamo - hope we fit in to a 4dr full size, drive to Park Hyatt Aviara for one night stay (two rooms utilizing BWB rewards).

Tuesday Aug 10th - drive to Del Mar - renting private house (wasn't available monday nite).  Unpack and swim etc... Tuesday night at Padres game.

Wednesday aug 11th - kayak or boat rental in bay.  La Jolla cove - seals??

Thursday aug 12th - seaworld

friday aug 13th - navy boats in harbor

Shabbos - at host in La Jolla

Sunday - aug 15th - bike ride somewhere in AM(coronado? mission bay??) need suggestions here

Monday - Aug 16th - lazy AM, leave by 12 to Anaheim, we have three nights reserved in Hyatt Orange County - I used my suite upgrade and GM promised me two room suite (one king, one sofa, two queens)

Mon-thurs spend time each day in Disneyland or California Adventure - 3 day hoppers have 2 extra free days so i figured it is worth spending time and not pressuring ourselves to finish each park in one day.

Thursday Aug 19 - drive to Santa Monica - stay at Fairmont (we have two attached bungalow rooms) where do we eat thursday night?? anything like Miami Grill in Toronto would be great - that worked out perfectly for us!

Friday Aug 20 - need suggestion - don't want to spend more money!

Shabbos Aug 21 - sleep (daven and learn a bit too)

Motzai Shabbos 11:59 PM LAX to JFK in business (courtesy of BA CC)

while in San Diego, we expect to get most of our food at Ralph's in La Jolla - anyone know what kind of prepared foods they have?

Any info on food or minyan near Disneyland would be helpful as well, i believe that there is something in Irvine but haven't followed up on it yet.

Sorry for the long post- hopefully this itinerary will be helpful for someone else and hopefully some of you will have some good comments as well.
