   [th]Description[/th]
   [th]Area - Address [/th]
   [th]Supervision[/th]
Tierra Sur At Herzog Winery in Oxnard 5/5 stars-The menu here is constantly changing but is always amazing.  The flavors you will try here are unlike any you will get at another kosher restaurant in the world.
Oxnard -

La Gondola4.5/5 stars
-Avocado eggrolls to die for (I had it and I didn't like it
I can't eat Avocado when it's warm, I'm sure others can't too-Sillypainter).  Great Bread with garlic margarine on the house(agree-Sillypainter) Great Gondola Burger special for lunch with excellent pasta or a soup.  And the Chai Steak with Carmelized Steak Sauce and arguably the best kosher ribs out there.   I'm getting hungry thinking about this place!
Pico

Meatos - https://meatos.us/

http://charcoalgrillbar.com/

Shiloh's4/5 stars
-Great baby back ribs and peppercorn steak.  They serve steaks with a number of dipping sauces which is pretty cool.  Also had some delicious key lime pie.
I did have a bad experience here with really bad food though...and service can be poor here as well.
Beverly Hills Thai4/5 stars-It can get very crowded so it's best to make a reservation in advance.
Jeff's 3.5/5 stars-Homemade onion rings, homemade sausages, Steak Sandwich, Western burger, lots of good and greasy stuff here.
PKD (Pico Kosher Deli)3.5/5 stars
-Excellent Deli-style food along with equally good homemade onion rings. No Reservations, but rarely more than a few minute wait. closes at 9 PM.
Pat's3/5 stars
-Either you love this upscale steakhouse or you hate it.  I used to hate it until my brother became good friends with the bartender.  Now when I go back with him we're treated to a feast for a king! Don't miss the bread pudding dessert!
Shanghai2.5/5 stars
-LA hasn't had very good Chinese since Sholom Cuisine closed.  This place is decent though.
Harissa4/5 stars-Home of the LA-famous pretzle challah! They offer Middle Eastern/Mediterranean/North African cuisine.  They have lots of seating and long hours.

Milk/Parve:

1. Fish Grill
4.5/5 stars
-The best fish you'll ever have, period.  I'm not such a fish person, but their Grilled Salmon on Angel Hair Pasta with a huge order of well-seasoned fries...YUM! Get the grilled salmon sandwich.

2. Milky Way Reopened, brand new place worth a visit
4/5 stars
-Steven Spielberg's adorable mom will come shmooze with you and show you his movie posters in the back.  Cheeze blintzes and lemon tart are awesome. Chimichangas, potato latkes, and more all at prices that haven't been raised in decades.

3. Pizza Nosh (Agoura Hills)
4/5 stars
-Excellent pizza and Eggplant Parmesean, worth a stop if you're in the area.

4. Pizza Mayven
4/5 stars
-Good plain pizza and excellent fries, and that's about it.

5. Nagila Pizza
3/5 stars
-Good but pricey stuffed crust pizza, and that's about it. There are some big fans of their Naco's out there as well.

6. Trattoria Natalie
4.5/5 stars
-A trattoria is translated from Italian as a tavern, and that's what this restaurant feels like.  They have a cool on-table feature: its a paging device with three bottons.  One botton calls for water, the other for the bill, the last for a waiter.  The food is very good and prices not too expensive.

7. Meshuga for Sushi/Meshuga for Sushi 2
4/5
-With 3 locations (one in La Brea, one in Pico, and one in the valley), they offer great sushi at reasonable prices.  They have some space to eat in the restaurant.  They have long hours and a decent lunch menu.

IF you eat non-CY:
-Sweet Rose Creamery, on Beverly is Kosher and considered some of the best ice cream in LA by foodies http://www.sweetrosecreamery.com/, usually have 4 or 5 non dairy flavors
-Toppings Frozen Yogurt 349 S Robertson Blvd, good frozen yogurt, usually have a non dairy flavor or two

If you eat CY:
-Milky's at 1429 S Robertson Blvd, Los Angeles, CA 90035 recently became kosher and is cholov yisrael.

Breakfast/Bakery:
1. Cafe Elite
4.5/5 stars
-Amazing cake/crumb donuts along with your usual breakfast food.

2. Schwartz Bakery/Circa NY
4/5 stars
-A great but expensive bakery.  The crumb cheese danish is a personal favorite, as is their wonderful Caramel cake and "kit kat" chocolate rice crispy bars.
They also now serve breakfast in their Pico and Fairfax location.  I had the combo Pancake+Waffle+Franch Toast meal with fruit salad that was very good.
On friday's only they sell raspberry cheese pockets - they always sell out of them early.

3. La Brea Bagel
3/5 stars
-Very good bagels with all kinds of toppings and other breakfast food.

4. The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf - 7235 Beverly Blvd
4/5 stars
-The only coffee bean in LA that has Cholov Yisroel upon request and offers 3 Pas Yisroel bakery items from Delice; Chocolate Almond croissant, Custard twist, and chocolate croissant - also upon request.

SHABBOS TAKE OUT OPTIONS

1. Ralph's - both the Pico and La Brea locations have a kosher section with takeout

Maybe the flies? Maybe the heat (can't turn on the AC)? Maybe the bugs swarming around the Hamotzi Station at the sink? Maybe the Homeless people on Pico gave me the Creeps? Maybe old rickety screen door at Pizza Mayven? Maybe the old school cups and plates at PKD.

La Gandola and Ditmas and Got Kosher? were much nicer then the rest, they aren't ALL bad. But that's why I disclaimed that it depends what you are used to. I didn't experience any of that in Miami or Chicago, or even NY, but granted I didn't eat everywhere.

If you're from LA, don't take it personally. You've got more going for you than PICO.

Also, ORD is an airport, without any Kosher, but I assume you meant CHI :)
I don't take it personally, don't worry.

That said, I don't know what you mean by no AC. All Places on Pico have AC and use it.

I don't know if you've been to HNL, but there are tons of homeless people there too. I don't know how that affects the restaurants they can't afford to enter.

I'll agree that both Pizza places you visited are kinda dirty, which is why they both don't have A ratings (CMIIW).

Old school cups and plates at PKD make it gross?

If you haven't been to restaurants in the aforementioned cities, what are you used to? What do you consider a good (not upscale necessarily) kosher restaurant without any of your above complaints?

Finally,  many DDFers refer to cities by their airport codes, as it's quicker.

I have no idea. Angelenos think it's weird that pizza slices elsewhere are so big. I do know that it's easier for the kids who don't want to eat as much.  ;)

Ask the guy in Pizza Mayven and he'll explain how it happened.

Read the review and learned that you won't get full ordering off the Ditmas apps menu and the dishes are app sized. In other news water is wet.

Are you sure about that?
MIA = Miami (City with Kosher Food)
NYC = Isn't an airport Code, but NYC = New York City Kosher Food
ORD = "Orchard Field Airport" or O'Hare = Not a City.

Yes, I don't want to drink with cups that are from the 80's. Besides the $$$ places, non of the places we ate had their A/C on. Either fans or doors open... Let's agree to disagree on this... Not worth thread bumping.

A glaring omission from your TR was a trip to Jeff's.  I also happen to like Mexikosher.  Pico Cafe and Schwartz/Circa were both mistakes and most people from LA that I know would have probably told you to avoid those places.  Also, I prefer Pat's (unlike many on here) over LG (but I can understand why that is a personal thing).  If you want good pizza, the best places are the in the Valley (La Pizza/Brami's) or Agoura Hills (Pizza Nosh).

+1 And I'll throw Bibi's in there. Mayven has good pizza, not a good place to eat. Pizaa World has its fans because of its variety. For Pizza in Pico Nagila is the onlyeitza unless you're looking for yoshon Purim time, then you go to Pizza Station.
Small portions at Ditmas is par for the course, as is the noise.
In Pico you could have tried:LA Burger Bar, Schnitzly, Meshuga 4 Sushi, Pat's. PKD is excellent, and old school on purpose. LA Gondola has an excellent Mushrrom Onion Burger, and 98% of their food is terrific.
Gross is a pretty strong term, so I think a little more subjectivity is in place.
And - your kids appreciate the double sliced :)

Agree, seems like RtM just didn't go in with a good game plan.

Pizza Mayven is good pizza, but agree that it's "dirty" looking.

And LG's Mushroom Onion Burger on the lunch special can't be beat. And I don't care what anyone says, their avocado eggrolls are awesome.

Ditmas doesn't get noisy until later, get there early to beat the crowd and pay half price.

And where's Fish Grill or Beverly Hills Thai?
And Delice makes great food as well.

If he didn't get the eggrolls it was a total waste :) I assumed that was a given.
And I admit, that's a big steak. I'm at LG average of twice a month, and in my personal preference nothing stacks up. Mushroom Onion Burger is available for dinner too.
Ditmas was excellent, but they didn't give me as big of a steak as they gave you, must have known who you are.

I'm expecting a head to head review of Pat's, LA Gondola and Ditmas from a kosher foodie tonight. will post a link.

Which steak do you get LG?
The MOB is cheaper at lunch at comes with a free soup/salad/pasta.

That is the horseradish encrusted steak special. Ask for it next time you go, not on the regular menu.
The short rib sliders app special is also outstanding.

Which steak do you get LG?
Rib eye most commonly, Rustica when I'm feeling kind of ravenous.
The MOB is cheaper at lunch at comes with a free soup/salad/pasta.
Yes, in general they have a great and affordable lunch menu. slightly smaller portions, but not the burgers IIRC
That is the horseradish encrusted steak special. Ask for it next time you go, not on the regular menu.
The short rib sliders app special is also outstanding.
Will do, thanks.

what I don't get about LA pizza is why they cut every slice in 2

Easier to eat while driving that way...

Ask the guy in Pizza Mayven and he'll explain how it happened.

Really?

I never would have thought to ask, but then again I grew up in LA and always found the big double slices weird.

How is a double slice weird? Doesn't a pie of pizza have 8 slices?
When you order 1 slice in LA I hope you don't get a 16th!
