Has anyone been to Shenandoah National Park? Did you drive the whole Sklline drive? Any suggestions?

I am sometimes accused of overthinking things. I am still mulling over whether that accusation has merit.

I proposed to my wife there :).

We also stopped about halfway there were some picnic tables and a souvenir shop where we ate lunch we had brought with us for the day. Basically we just took our time and stopped at a number of different view points along the way and tried to get lucky spotting the bear (which other people had told us they had seen that day).

Is it worth it to do the whole drive? Are the best sights in a certain area?

It may depend where you are coming from/going to as you end up on the other end of the park. All the views were nice, but similar in that they were expansive views of the area below the skyline ridge. I don't feel like one half had a nicer view. I was doing the driving also so I imagine the passengers would get to enjoy it even more as the drive in itself is beautiful even without the rest stops. Still to be in a place with views from both sides was a unique experience.

Someone asked on a different thread if it's worth a trip to Shenandoah.
I figured I'll answer here since this is the correct thread.

I just took went there a few months ago.
I hope to write a slightly more detailed review at some point, but for the meantime I'll suffice with some general remarks.

It was nice, but not nice enough that I'd travel from e.g. the NY metropolitan area exclusively for.
Maybe as a trip from Baltimore? Dunno.
Maybe I say this because I've been to unbelievable National Parks in Western part of our country, and I was "spoiled" by their beauty? I dunno.

We traveled the entire Shenandoah AKA Skyline Dr (i.e. almost every viewpoint), and also a chunk of the Blue Ridge Parkway.
The part of the Blue Ridge Pkwy we did traverse was IIRC almost indistinguishable from Skyline Dr.
Granted, we didn't get through most of Blue Ridge, and especially much further south which some say is much prettier (e.g. the Linn Cove Viaduct).

The only tip right now that I can give, is that if you do go, only go during Fall foliage.
Yes, that's when the masses will be there, but that's the only time of year this park really shines.
