Like I said, just trying to clarify, not judging. I think it's worth $60, but I hope the person who takes it understands the risk. Something tells me they might shut down the account and then the number wouldn't be able to get ported out.

I would resign my contract and then if they cancel the line you at least get free phone
actually the phone would be far from free. upgrading commits you for 2 yrs and porting out is treated as a cancellation. so you'd lose the plan AND pay a full ETF for the "free" phone

txtmx - do they really/regularly pay etf fees to switch to them? only verizon? more info/links?

and like planelove said - you have a certain grace period to resign and they refund the fee - thats how you port out a number regularly - why would that not work to reactivate if not on contract? but maybe have to be in contract... maybe not with old plan...

would this work:

1)call verzion or att which or ever service you want to port to
2)since im still in contract ask them to pay my etf for me
3)then port my #
4)then call sprint to reinstate my plan if they say no they would have to wave the etf fee
so if i lose my plan atleast i would make $175?
does this make any scene or anyone know if it will work?

Will ATT/VZW give you the same phone discount as a new customer and your Sprint ETF?

That really stinks.
Sprint's prices will still be better than everyone else. But who knows for how long? They are doing lots of changes lately, taking lots of risks.
I'm staying where I am. For now.

First of all, do not give up that plan. It's not worth it for $175.
Second, it's not guaranteed that Verizon/ATT will give you the full etf. You might have to call multiple times and nudge a lot, and still might not get it.
Third, I'm pretty sure that Sprint will not take you back AND won't refund your etf either.
