my test of simply unscrewing the filter is not a thorough diagnostic test to rule out filter issues.
Sounds like that.
Either buy the filter. Or buy the filter bypass piece (call GE, I'd bet they send it for free)
Life isn't about checking the boxes. Nobody cares.

I called GE. It is out of warranty so they won't even trouble shoot over the phone. A diagnosis by technician coming out is minimum $99.

My water dispenser in the refrigerator is extremely slow. I assume it is the water filter which hasn't been replaced in a really long time. However, when I take off the filter and push the water button the water still only trickles out. Does that mean that the problem is somewhere other than the filter?
On the GE site it says "To confirm a clogged filter, please remove the filter and install the supplied filter bypass plug in its place. Try the dispenser, if the water flow improves from the dispenser, the filter is clogged and needs to be replaced." I don't have this bypass piece, so I am wondering if my test of simply unscrewing the filter is not a thorough diagnostic test to rule out filter issues.
Anybody ideas?
IMHO its a filter issue. The water is not supposed to flow without a filter or bypass. Buy a new filter you should be fine.

Not difficult to install, but sometimes(usually) difficult to remove old adhesive

Mine does flow without a filter.  I had this problem (when I first got the fridge, after a few months), and removing the filter greatly improved the flow.  Which told me it was the filter.
But maybe Churn is right for most fridges.

Also, this is obvious, but worth mentioning...make sure your water line is not pinched (maybe the fridge rolled over it)?

You'll save 9% on materials and fixtures/appliances etc.
How do you figure 9%? 5% + ____?

UR chase points used to be worth 1.8 cents each. (with the united devaluation, the new price is not yet settled.)

Any tips you can give me?
check you tube and such for home improvement videos that show you how to do it.  also google it for advice from 'old  house' type magazines and such.  there should be lots of info out there.

There is a tool that I purchased to peel it off, but it really just took a lot of elbow grease and patience.  My job was done about 8 years ago, and I did not think to check for videos (if there even were any back then) like ckmk suggested.  Also, I was working on two layers of floor at the same time.

after you peel off the actual tile you will likely be left with black adhesive. Pour boiling water on it(or lay towels soaked with water on it for less mess) let it sit for a while and then use an angled stripper(and change the blade very often)

Looking for a moisture meter on amazon, and I see many with prices from 5 to 100. Anyone use these regularly that can help explain the differences

This may not fit exactly, but I'd like to hear input from people who've done renovations, from minor to extensive. What are some things you looked back at and were glad you did, and others you wished you had done differently?

When you're starting to plan, concentrate on the layout.  (You're not moving the kitchen after it's in.)
Maximize what's most important to you.  bedrooms, window, bathrooms, kitchen...

That said, I'm glad I spent a little extra on certain upgrades to my main room.  It's the room I entertain in.
I like that I added a bathroom off the master bedroom.
I'm enjoying my finished basement, but I consider it a luxury; my storage could have stayed in an unfurnished basement, the bedroom is only used for sleeping over yomtov, and the toy and play area might have found a place on the 2nd floor.
Central air changes the way I think about air conditioning.  Now it's more 'climate control' like heating.

Also, not everything has to be done in one shot.  If you can't afford everything you want, save some things for round 2.  The basement often can wait.  Even the kitchen- you can put in a cheap kitchen with your old appliances and upgrade years later.  But make the layout you like now.
