@AJK - Have you ever seen an all female jury before?

I'm too tired to run the z score, but my gut is that it isnt very far off the mean.

Ok, ok, I'll run it.

Men are 1, women are 0
population mean is .5
stdev is .5
sample mean is 0
stdev of sample means is .2
z score is 2.5

So basically it will happen like a bit more than 1/100 times that a six person jury will be all men or all women.

If it's chosen at random. however, I assume most trial lawyers are looking for a mix

They want something to change. Maybe start with the stand your ground law?

Stand your ground ended up being irrelevant to the case. It was all about self-defense.

Why?

Hmm. Cuts both ways. Maybe it depends if you're the party trying to pull the fast one.

Which is why mathematical equations are many times so off base, because human activity often can't be represented by numbers. (Don't want to get into the Shidduch Crisis right now  ;) )

This NY Times editorial is so stupid, it could make you cry.

Nobody in the world could possibly think that there shouldn't be basic self defense doctrine. To hold someone liable when they--and a reasonable person in their position--thought that they needed to to avoid being killed, is absolutely outrageous.

And they should do their homework--that is the law in every state in the union, and probably in every country in the world.

From the NY Times
"Certainly it is about race — ask any black man, up to and including President Obama, and he will tell you at least a few stories that sound eerily like what happened that rainy winter night in Sanford, Fla. "

They convieniantly forgot that it was Trayvon Martin himself who injected race into this (and apparently beat up GZ becuse of this) when he told his GF Rachel Jeantel that zimmerman was a "creepy a... cracker (equivilant of the N word) then proceeded to break zimmermans nose etc;

And oh, it's certanily about race because any black man and the president himself just has this gut feeling.. (btw i'm curious to know what the presidents eerily similar stories are)

And the fact that Zimerman had a Black business partner and helped black youths,  is definitley another reason he's a racist...

Now ask any white man up to the first 43 presidents (okay, maybe not the presidents) and i'm sure they also have many eerily similar stories to what happened to zimmerman that night.

(A family member of mine was walking down the street minding their own business, was mugged and stabbed by a black man who also happened to be on proabation - is currently rotting in prison- then his family members tried killing my family member for getting him back into prison)

Wait a minute... are you actually trying to reason with a liberal editorial who's entire purpose is to incite racial hatred?

Don't you get it? They NEED this to be about race!

" The jury reached its verdict after having been asked to consider Mr. Zimmerman’s actions in light of Florida’s now-notorious Stand Your Ground statute"
I thought that was not partyy of the trial?

It wasn't. They fail to understand the difference between a regular self defense defense and stand your ground

Really?!?! since whe is it notoriuos?

BTW, if you don't like the law, simple solution, don't beat anyone up and try to kill them....you won't have a problem with the "notoriuos law"...

Yes, I found this humorous.  Yeder shvartza in der gas is suddenly a legal scholar with strong opinions about legal doctrine.  Has anyone suggested that  GZ had the ability to retreat?  I heard someone on the radio lamenting about all the blacks that were killed under this statute.  Liberals fail to realize the absurdity of such a statement (that more blacks are killed under a statute that allows you to use lethal force against  your aggressor?-- That is most racist statement I've heard in a while).
If you don't care why would you comment?

This whole "assumption" idea is beyond me.

If I assume that some guy is selling pizza and therefore approach him, and then the same story ends up happening. Would you say that he is dead because I assumed that he was selling pizza?
