I do keep that in mind, which is why I am not surprised or upset by the average 60 year old black person who grew up in the segregated south who thinks this is all just the same thing happening again.

I criticize people like the president though. You see, statements like his which support the notion that there was racism here serve to convince blacks that there is continuing racism in the country to such a degree, and to carry those same scars of racism of which he rightly complains down into the next generation. It is truly impossible to comprehend any sort of good faith on the part of the president and the other pols who say such absurd things and negate the progress we have made as a country on race.

As has been said, they had to find jurors who didn't know anything about one of the top national stories that happened in their backyard. IOW: the 6 least intellectually curious people in seminole county.

Many? If you only count African Americans (as opposed to Israeli Ethiopeans) theres probably just a handful.. ( I don't mean literally just 5, but definitely not hundreds like your 'many' may imply).

I assume for purposes of this discussion we are talking about in the Orthodox world in which case pretty much any AA Jew is a convert.

Truth is though, any jew who intermarries (or has an out of wedlock encounter) with a non jewish AA can have a kid who is AA (I know someone who did that)

Hard to tell just from the article, but the biggest difference here will probably be that the guy will be convicted of something at least. They didn't let him go in the first place. I'm not saying the attention is warranted in either case, but if he's convicted, there won't be much to talk about. On the one hand, race almost certainly played a part in that he probably wouldn't have felt threatened if it had been some white college kids blasting their music. And some similar statement could probably be made about George Zimmerman. But that should have nothing to do with whether either one goes to jail. And no law will ever be able to change the way people react to those of another race.

Well, anyone can say it. The question is if the facts bear out a likelihood such that we believe him and think it was reasonable for him to be scared.

If we believe him that he was, and believe that based on the facts he was reasonable, then it is a full defense.
If we believe him that he was, but don't believe that it was reasonable, then some states call it an "imperfect defense" and it is voluntary manslaughter.
If we don't believe him that he was, but do believe it was reasonable, then it is still murder.

+1. We obviously don't have the evidence in front of us, but there's no mention of how he'll actually establish his self defense claim. You can't just say I feared for my life. You have to present a narrative and attempt to establish it with evidence, as Zimmerman and his lawyers did.
