For those that don't know how certificates work.

Seven night and five night certificates

1. Marriott certificates can be used for any reservation that can be booked with points. To search for reward availability simply go to marriott.com and check the box to search "using points".

Marriott hotels are divided into categories. (Cheapest being category one) below is a list of all the category 1-4 hotels  http://www.marriott.com/hotel-search/Category1.hotels.Category2.Category3.Category4.Category5/

2. A 5/7 night certificates must be used for 5/7 consecutive nights. The reservation cannot be split up.

3. In order to hold the room you need a credit card. Your card will be kept for incidentals and you won't be charged for the room.

4. Certificates can be gifted BUT the room needs to be booked under the account holders name and you will be added a secondary guest.

5. Gold or plat benefits depend heavily on the hotel. At check in you may or may not get an upgrade.

I was told the same thing as rep #1 told you and she elaborated with the story of rep #2.  Additionally, she told me this is the new policy as of January 1, 2019.

Does that mean we can't buy cert from others anymore?  Is there an option for the seller to put buyer's name as primary?

I booked an award night and then tried attemted to add on my buyer. I didn't see that option online so I called in. First rep. told me that because it's a certificate I can't add guest. 2nd rep. told me that they can add guest but if they arrive first it will be charged as a regular room, and reversed once I arrive. Is this a new policy? Is there someway around this? Thanks.

Wiki states "Certificates can be gifted and the room can be booked with anyone's name as the primary guest (and not just secondary guest)" . . . unless that is no longer the case.

Were you able to make your BIL the primary on the reservation? Or secondary?

Hoping to purchase a 7 night, cat 5 cert with platinum status for a November 2019 stay. Please PM me if you have one available.

I'm also interested (for the right price) in a 5/7 night, cat 8 cert with Platinum status for an August 2019 stay.

Thanks!

Just realized I didn't list a price for my request. Can someone tell me what's a fair price for:

7 night, cat 5 platinum status cert
7 night, cat 7 platinum status cert

I'm willing to pay fair price to anyone selling these certs. Thanks!
