For those that don't know how certificates work.

Seven night and five night certificates

1. Marriott certificates can be used for any reservation that can be booked with points. To search for reward availability simply go to marriott.com and check the box to search "using points".

Marriott hotels are divided into categories. (Cheapest being category one) below is a list of all the category 1-4 hotels  http://www.marriott.com/hotel-search/Category1.hotels.Category2.Category3.Category4.Category5/

2. A 5/7 night certificates must be used for 5/7 consecutive nights. The reservation cannot be split up.

3. In order to hold the room you need a credit card. Your card will be kept for incidentals and you won't be charged for the room.

4. Certificates can be gifted BUT the room needs to be booked under the account holders name and you will be added a secondary guest.

5. Gold or plat benefits depend heavily on the hotel. At check in you may or may not get an upgrade.

Can you please excuse my ignorance but what does a 5/7 week Marriott certificate mean?
It's usually part of a travel package.
In short it is an award certificate that you can redeem for 5 or 7 consecutive nights, at various category levels.

Not according to TPG, who states that any certificates which have a points amount tied to them (ie: credit card nights good at a 35k a night property) will only be valid for standard and off-peak awards, but not for peak pricing. I'm unclear about the vacation packages, but the way that Marriott is handling all reward matters, I would not be surprised if they applied the same rules to those as well.

If anything, this new change might lower the value of the vacation packages, because it might only make sense to use them during standard pricing, and stick to points for off-peak pricing.

Another big blow to the Bonvoy program.

I am referring to 5/7 night travel certificates.

From today

Bonvoy confirms to me that Marriott travel packages do not have restrictions on use during peak nights. Marriott reward night certificates can be used for their permitted category whether the standard room redemption is for off season, standard or peak season. As a result you get the most value during peak season.

I recall reading a while back on DDF that Marriott reps. were saying that the primary guest was needed to check-in. If you have experience actually doing this without a problem, I guess that should be satisfactory... Thanks.

So, in practice, how does this work? Say, I want to book a hotel in Tel Aviv. Someone "sells" me 2 free nights. How do I become the primary guest?
If you're in the financing or e-commerce business, and need capital to grow, we should talk...
