Current Laptop Deal
« on: July 23, 2010, 10:38:58 AM »
I'm trying to help a friend who "needs" a laptop for his home/wife, but not for any specific reason other than that his wife thinks that they need one. I say that because I don't think he needs anything special as far as specs go, just that the laptop should be wifi-accessible & that it should appear modern enough that his wife shouldn't think that he skimped out on it. That being said, I haven't been in the market for a laptop lately so I don't know enough to help him. Please help me help this guy, and try to help find the cheapest one.

One more note, a netbook would not be what he needs/wants.

Thanks!
i wish i knew what i was doing...

Would (certified) refurb from Dell be ok?

Unless I'm saving a real boatload of cash I would never buy a refurb.

Sounds like a good deal to me,but I'm curious as to Dans abhorence of refurbs. What inherent drawback does a certified refurb have for some1 whu the bottom line is the biggest thing that matters?

That processor is 2 generations old.

It's the previous generation. Also it rates pretty well on benchmark tests.

The drawback? You're buying a used computer that was probably returned for a good reason...
And I've had a couple terrible experiences with refurbs.

Current generation = Core i3/5/7.
Previous generation = Core2Duo
2 generations ago = Dual Core
No?

You're probably right. My bad ... But I still think that it's an OK deal for someone that doesn't really need the performance (although it has some), and is primarily interested in web-browsing and light usage...

It's just that OK.
I think you'd still be better off in the long run getting a brand new computer with a newer processor for $500 or so.
