The best CC for hotels with low thresholds?
« on: July 02, 2013, 03:31:55 PM »
Hey,

I wanted to know the best credit cards for hotels.

I have the SPG, I know it's pretty solid.

I am looking into Chase Hyatt ($1k, 3 mo. 2 free nights) and the Chase Marriot ($1k, 3 mo. 50k points).

What are the best credit cards with low thresholds, or period, for hotel use?

Thanks!

The Chase UR cards offer 2, 3, or 5 points per dollar and are better than the Hyatt card.
The SPG cards are great and the SPG business card give more rewards for Hyatt spending than the Hyatt card does.

Awesome! So spending dollars on getting a hotel with my sapphire or spg and getting points is better then actually meeting a $1k threshold and using the 2 free nights on a Hyatt?

Signup bonuses are always going to be the best way to get stays. It's just worth using the card afterward.

Ok awesome! Do we convert UR points into something that can be used for hotels? Or are they best used for flights?

Oh fantastic, I just logged into UR.com and checked on hotels. I don't see why I would even sign up for the Hyatt unless just to use those two days. The rewards are fantastic!

If you have Diamond status when you apply, you will get 2 free nights in a suite.

Chase Marriot ($1k, 3 mo. 50k points).
Marriott us 70k (50k +20k with an easy sm) plus a free night in a cat. 1-4 or 5 depending on your offer.

What do you mean if I have diamond status when I apply for the Hyatt?

Marriott us 70k (50k +20k with an easy sm) plus a free night in a cat. 1-4 or 5 depending on your offer.

Marriott us 70k? Whats an "easy sm?"

Are you talking about the IHG rewards club card from chase? I only see a 60k point signup bonus, do you have a link for 80k? What additional benefits do you get with the platinum?

I was going to forgo the Hyatt in light of what Dan said about the UR and signup for the Freedom (10k UR points for $500 in 3 M0.) and the Sapphire (10k UR points for $500 in 3 M0.), as churning at that rate gives me 60k UR points for $3k in 3 months.

Gotchya, get chase to match a 70k offer thats happening right now with a secure message.  Very cool, I found a link for the 70k offer if anyone on this thread is looking into it.

Back to the point. I have been an avid SPG member, and I really love me some SPG (I recently got back from Le Meridien Dead Sea, and soon will be IY"H at the Westin E&R Venice. You Feelin me now?!  ;)) ... but I'm looking to expand my horizons and sign up for a new hotel rewards credit card, but cannot decide on one

I was considering Club Carlson, for its got some sweet signup deals and I love their 5 points per dollar EVERYWHERE! but it seems to me that their hotels are very simple and no big deal, and I'm more of a 5 star kind of fella

My most frequent destinations are Israel, Los Angeles, Miami Beach, Seattle WA, and an upcoming Italy vacation in Dec. - Jan.

I'd like not to have to use my UR points for hotel stays as they are more worth to me as airline miles,

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

Club Carlson has limited great redemption opportunities here in the US. The best value for club carlson is usually in Europe (London, especially.)

Hyatt has amazing opportunities just about everywhere. 22k points (or even a free night cert from signup bonus) can get you a night valued over $500 in the US or a night worth over $1000 in Europe (PH Paris, Zurich, Milan.)

Priority Club's card is underrated IMO, 40-50k points can get you into some real nice Intercontinental hotels. + the point breaks and the card gives you platinum status which is a debatable value.

Hilton points are worthless now, although the free weekend certs from the citi card can be a good value.

I dropped Marriott a while ago, so I can't comment on its chase card.
