Help with Singapore Airlines Miles redemtion

So i found the flight i want from Frankfurt to JFK with Saver award 40K Miles. it says i can wait list it, but i have a few questions

1. Can i book only one way for half the miles? i don't see the option on the site, perhaps by phone?

2. can i wait list it without having the miles in my account? i don't want to transfer my amex points and then they will be stuck there

3. what other miles can i book this flight, even if waitlisted

1) On SQ.com you can book one way or round trip, very easy, just select one-way

2) when the waitlist clears you're notified and have like 2-3 days to "ticket" it, so presume no mileage needed (its not deducted right away IIRC)

3) no,one can really book SQ, let alone waitlist.... (yes I know that LH/AV can...)

2. I understand that, but when i try to wait list it says "You have insufficient miles to proceed. You need another 17,000 miles" so i am assuming only way to do this is transfer the miles to my account, (which i don't want to do until i know there will be available) am i assuming wrong?

I want to use SQ miles miles for LIH - NYC. Would they allow me a stopover in LAX?

I called them they said they said they don't allow stopovers in the US unless its in transit.
