United bumping
« on: July 25, 2010, 12:15:41 PM »
Does anyone know about bumping on United specifically, as in what do they offer?
I know Dan posted awhile back that they give a domestic RT. Does anyone know the restrictions on that, and if  Iearn miles for that ticket?
Thanks

Usually you can get at least $400 voucher which in most cases is better then a RT ticket. The flight that they do put you on will earn miles.

thanks aussie.
Two things: if its a last minute ticket, it often is above $400,
and I was asking if a flight voucher earns miles...

if by flight voucher you mean a free tkt No they dont not only by UA but by any carrier FWIK. as aussie said you are better off with a $ VDB but UA doesnt always offer them as they rather give the free tkt. The free tkt has to be booked into a certain fare bucket = if its not available then no flight for U.

the $ VDB will earn you miles on the tkt U used that on, no change if U have say a $400 VDB and the fare is $239 then if you use the VDB you dont get $161 for another flight

as for the amount it does vary and no carrier has to go according to the sign up order either. also they prefer to take someone who will be ending at that destination= you have a JFK-LAX-LAS tkt and the JFK-LAX is oversold, then they will Only use U if they cant get anyone else and even that isnt 100%. If U are say flying LGA-IAD-FCO and LGA-IAD is oversold they wont take you 1-since youre on an Intl tkt and 2 especially if you have already checked in your bags

If you are trying to get a bump, no luggage is a plus and volunteer as soon as the gate agents come to the gate or as soon as you get there.

The Free ticket (DBC free ticket voucher) on United can be used for any flight in the domestic 48 United states, Must be booked at least 2 weeks in advance, you do not earn miles, can only be used on United, not any *alliance partners, but the dates can be changed as many times as you want. You can even book leaving from one city and returning to another, as the round trip, I've done it, JFK-LAX LAX-ORD round trip, bec i wanted to stop there for a week, then bought a cheap one way ticket from ORD-LGA, it is alot better then miles and is can be used to any destination with no blackouts.
