Looking for alternative to BB 8330 on Sprint
« on: July 25, 2010, 06:17:35 PM »
Hi,
I have the Sprint BB curve 8330 for about a year or so and I am looking for suggestions on a possible alternative. Lately my phone is freezing up too much especially while accessing BB Groups, or slowing down drastically for seemingly no good reason.
Overall I love BB (the way it handles email and BBM) and would like to get another BB that doesn't have these issues, how does the Tour or the Bold compare? Is there a much better BB available from any of the other carriers that should make me seriously consider switching services?

What about any other non BB phones that Sprint carries, are there any that I should seriously consider and why?

Thanks for any advice, when searching for online reviews i find very conflicting info.

You will have those problems with ANY BB out there, any carrier.
You should seriously look into the htc EVO from Sprint.
Once you have it, you will not look back..

Thanks for your reply, I am seriously thinking about the EVO. How long have you had the Evo and do you have any issues at all? I heard battery life is not the greatest.
Also I use my BB as a modem for my netbook all the time, how does the EVO's "hotspot" feature compare and are there extra fees for the capability?

I'm pretty sure Sprint lets you try any phone for 30 days. Try a Bold for 20-something days, if you like it you keep it, otherwise you return it.

Same for the Evo, etc.

Lather. Rinse. Repeat.

Just under a month and a half now. I consider myself one of the lucky ones who were able to get their hands on it.
No issues whatsoever, only that it's lightning fast and it NEVER freezes. The battery life is very good... if you ONLY use it as a phone, but hey, this is not JUST a phone...

The EVO's hotspot feature is definately faster than any BB or any Sprint phone for that matter, being that it has a 1GB processor. Not to mention if you are in a 4G coverage area, in that case its faster even.
There are extra fees, however you can PM me to get around it.

To my knowledge you can only switch your phone once. So that would be 2 phones per 30-day trial.

But you can return it and start all over, no?

You can. But if you port a number that you really want to keep, the only way to do it is by trying 2 phones and porting out to a different company before 30 days, and then jumping back to Sprint to try 2 more phones etc...
In my opinion, nowadays there's so much info out there including hands-on videos about any phone. You can do the proper research and ask specific questions at forums before buying the phone, no need to try every single phone begashmiyus..
