Anyone else saw this?

The bill proposal allowing people to transfer their tickets to someone else with no penalty?

https://passportnews.co.il/%d7%90%d7%9c-%d7%a2%d7%9c-%d7%a0%d7%92%d7%93-%d7%94%d7%a6%d7%a2%d7%aa-%d7%97%d7%95%d7%a7-%d7%9c%d7%94%d7%a1%d7%91%d7%aa-%d7%9b%d7%a8%d7%98%d7%99%d7%a1%d7%99-%d7%98%d7%99%d7%a1%d7%94/
From what I can understand, the only way to logically implement such a thing, is if you switch airfare to a system like the MTA or Israel bus service, where every seat has the same price tag no difference front/back etc. no matter when it was purchased. But if it's a system like hotels where prices change based on demand, it's not really a sustainable/reasonable law like LY is pointing out.

hotels allow other people to check in to your reservation.

Apparently ELAL resuscitating it's BOS route in April.

Probably want to scare Delta off... Not really gonna work though.
Delta could afford to lose a few million dollars from a failed route. LY can't afford to lose another dollar... Really sad situation. I'm starting to feel bad for them....

Again, the sale is $499
El Al always sells at below cost on these Israeli websites... But on elal.com, Priceline, Expedia, Orbitz etc, it'll be $499

Giving away their commission or even more than that, with the hope that you'll use them to book hotels and rental cars.

And they charge a fortune to change or cancel (which is free) from the innocent who don't know that they can bypass the agency...

The commission on a $499 ticket is as much as $91?
Or they are lessing at a loss, expecting to upsell with other things?

They are selling at a loss. It's partially cushioned by the commission.

Apparently. This is yeeeeears old. Though I think it's mainly done by newcomer OTAs who wants to break into the market and eventually raise the prices. Never followed it closely. But for as long as I can remember there were always Israeli OTAs that were selling specifically LY below market value. Regardless of during a sale or not.

Before covid, I was once in contact with one of these agencies (not Israeli) who sold a ticket and wanted to charge a friend of mine $250 for something that was the same day void and legally required. But they get away with it because not everyone knows the laws etc. So my friend bought a ticket at $20 off, and then was being ripped off for $250 for something that should be free. I called the agency to help him, and eventually succeeded knocking them down to $50 when they finally admit that it doesn't cost them money to cancel the same day.
I've seen one of these Israeli OTAs charge for seat selection when the airline clearly didn't. I don't know all their hacks, but thats sort of how it works.

Do you contend that the cost of labor is $0? If someone needs to handle it, there's a cost. What they charge the client for that is a different story.
