Usually, if you are taking the same airline (on a single reservation) you will make it through and if it is very tight they may have special personnel waiting to transfer you. In the worst case it is their responsibility to get you on the next flight free.

checking dates pesach i'm seeing that el al dropped prices on lax-tlv by $400
but AF and LH prices are crazy even more than LY
does this mean they aren't planning on long term return?

Just wanted to comment that Ethiopian Airlines TLV-JFK can be pretty decent for someone who isn't scared of 21 hours in the air, they even offer for 300 dollars 3 empty seats which I didn't pay and got for free. I got 15 hrs sleep on board...
