You serious?!?!
90% of people (especially in Y) wouldn't even consider taking a flight 2 hours longer. No "product" or "service" will make any difference here.
Most people wouldn't even know that LY's flight is 2 hours longer.

Nothing to do with intelligence, most people Aren't on DDF or any other travel forum/blog.
Next time your in TLV, ask anyone checking in for that flight if they know that its 2 hours longer than Air India.

2) I'm a travel agent. Most people are not as spaced-out as you think.

Air India's flight and the political ramifications were widely reported in the Israeli media and a large portion of travelers are aware of it

Of course. But no way is it more than a third IMHO. Even that is being generous.

We're the nerds that know that United flies a 772 and a 77W from EWR to TLV, but most do not know and do not care.

Which is why so many NYC-TLV economy seats are sold on PS, SU and TK (and to a slight lesser degree AZ).  ::)

And also many people (mostly Israelis, or elderly people) pay a premium for LY on the NYC-TLV route despite the fact that the product is inferior to DL and UA.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

About the difference of the 772 to 77W, correct. But a 2 hr flight time difference, which can easily be seen when selecting flights and has been repeatedly discussed all over Israeli media, goes quite a bit further than us nerds

772-77W=.01%
Flight time discrepancy=33%

Nobody is flying the extra hours here because of better service or better product. Anyone flying these airlines, are flying them primarily because they are much cheaper than the rest.
So do you expect LY to attract their clients by lowering prices when they are the ones who have significantly higher operating costs, due to their longer route?

And also many people (mostly Israelis, or elderly people) pay a premium for LY on the NYC-TLV route despite the fact that the product is inferior to DL and UA.
-1
Most often LY is the cheapest non-stop option on this route, because they have the most available space on the route. UA and DL also fill most of their space from connections across the country while I believe that LY flights are filled mostly by passengers checking-in in NY.

I'll agree on that :)
But is 33% not enough a reason to take legal action?

All I'm saying is that most people don't know. I don't have a problem with LY fighting for this one.

For years  LY was paying AI not to operate the route

Whoa! can't they face criminal charges now even though the Israeli gov was in on it at the time?

Hebrew article.

Talks about ELAL'S hypocrisy in trying to block Air India flights over Saudi airspace. When for years they paid Air India in order not to fly to TLV, as well as other anti-competitive practices related to codeshare agreements and marketing.
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!
