You seem to be a real lamdan in politics. I'm not gonna waste my time replying to all the ridiculous comments above, but I'll just say this. Turkish PM (who just this week called Israel a "terrorist state") is a rabid anti-semite. Period. He funds terrorism against innocent Israelis. No need to water that down.
Nobody is forcing you to fly El Al (after all, it's not the style if you're on DDF) or to waive the Israeli flag. If you want to fly with the Turks, feel free. But let's not get carried away with what an amazing airline and country it is, and it's all just a show (interesting that no US airline flies there either - though I don't know if that's due to security concerns or not).
(I know someone who recently asked one of the leading gedolim in EY if it's ok to fly TK, to which the reply was "perhaps you should make Turkish citizenship, also?")
In any case, maybe open an "analysis of Middle East politics" thread in the board of worthless discussions (JS), so that we can keep these threads for interesting updates in the air travel industry. (I specifically follow this thread for interesting updates regarding the field I work in. It's annoying every time I open this to see more ridiculous analysis of the politics here [from an outsider])
End rant
I fully agree with you that this discussion doesn't belong here. All I did was
report a new EX-TLV route and "
someone" brought LY into the conversation, with inaccurate claims, which I disputed, without even talking much about LY.
It is a well established DDF tradition to go off onto side discussions until the mods eventually prune it into its own thread, which I think they should.
Whether Erdoğan (BTW, he's Turkish President, not PM, at this point, but it really doesn't matter) is an antisemite or not, is irrelevant. He definitely does help Hamas, as does Qatar, with the blessing and approval of the Israeli government! And the response about Turkish citizenship... Well, what kind of a response is that? Every Jew should have as many passports as he can legally have (as long as none of them force him into some army service or the likes).
FTR, I have friends and family that count TLV as their home airport (some of them occasionally travel to IST on business, importing from Turkey to Israel), as well as friends and family that count IST as their home airport, which probably influences my interest in both.
