Where did you see that? I checked a few places.
It's a recurrent question on their Facebook page, and the admins keep on answering Narita, for what it's worth :)

Great news. Didn't realize there was enough demand to fill 3x weekly. I guess i was wrong, press release points to 40k Israelis having flown to Japan in 2018 and 20k Japanese to Israel

Based on the Sat/Sun flights TK TLV-IST and CX TLV-HKG: There are often more than 30 people collected to run to the gate to make the connection to Tokyo

What I do not understand is why they would choose Japan with a questionable amount of tourist over the Philippines with a steady stream. Only thing I can think is the Premium cabins to Tokyo will always be full as opposed to PH.

LX (Swiss) opens the TLV check-in counter 3 hours before departure and closes it 2 hours before departure. Crazy!

I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

You can always check in at the Lufthansa counter that remains open for the 8am flight

I would bet that many of those people rushing to make connections are business travelers.  We have a friend working at Intel that needs to go there for work. Also, tourists and all the Filipino workers in Israel will be way more price sensitive and willing to add a stop to save a few dollars.

My child is going to be in Israel next year and I was just looking at trying to figure out the best (ie cheapest, Direct or possibly one stop in Amman) option  for him to meet me in Asia for Hannukah, and it was interesting to see all the options. I also wonder if El AL will be able to tie this flight into flights on Quantas from Australia.

How do Australians generally travel to Israel now?

The flight I’m really waiting for is direct to Singapore on SQ. Has anyone heard anything on progress on that?

I have seen Beijing direct for around 500 and Arkia had sales for around $300 to Bangkok

As a regular at IST on TK, seems like more tourists than business.

Also, tourists and all the Filipino workers in Israel will be way more price sensitive and willing to add a stop to save a few dollars.
Workers true however Japanese tourists like the most direct - according to agents I've spoken to.

Most direct would not be via NRT, much further north than BKK or HKG which are the quickest for Oz pax.
However if price is the option, then even 2 stops, eg. quantas+tk is often very cheap. or Thai/Qantas+Ethiopian - but a very long trip

Well, if we can't get SQ to serve TLV, at least we will have RwandAir with established service to TLV by the time they become the next SQ.

What kind of Equipment? What about connection times? (not that I have any use for it either way, and they aren't part of an alliance so can't even think of it as a mileage run).
