Why would Greece be any less risky than NY? And what major benefit to the Israeli economy will come from allowing Greece but not NY?
I've been waiting over 5 years with bated breath for someone to say that!

Don't think it has to do with risky. Israelis like going to Greece.

But what provides the most benefit to the economy?

Once they decide on allowing some, they should make an exception like Germany does. A current negative test avoids quarantine.

The main thing is that they allow @ExGingi to enter without quarantine. The details can be worked out around that. :P

Could have stated it better myself!

Germany got it right:
https://www.bmi.bund.de/SharedDocs/pressemitteilungen/EN/2020/07/anpassung-einreisebschraenkungen-drittstaaten-en.html

Quote
Regardless of the possibility to enter the country, Germany still has a quarantine requirement in place in all federal states on the basis of the Protection against Infection Act (Infektionsschutzgesetz) for those returning to and entering Germany from regions designated by the Robert Koch Institute as risk areas. The quarantine requirement also applies across the board (with the exception of transit passengers) for travellers with an important reason for travel.

An exception is made from the quarantine requirement if the person has an up-to-date negative coronavirus test.

Why can't the Israelis do the same?  ::)    Also IINM the Germans have a rapid test available at FRA (and possibly other airports) where they can get a response in 3 hours.

https://www.frankfurt-airport.com/en/transfer-at-frankfurt-airport/covid-19/fly-safely.html

Quote
Beginning on August 8, 2020, all travelers returning from high-risk areas must be tested either no more than 48 hours prior to flying or free of charge 72 hours after arriving in Germany. Free tests are available in two testing centers located right at the airport on the pedestrian bridge connecting Terminal 1 and the long-distance train station.

Unless they have tested negative for Covid-19, passengers arriving from high-risk countries must immediately quarantine themselves at home or their final destination for two weeks.

@ExGingi they are listening to you

After ministers agree to widen flight availability from August 16, Airports Authority publishes tender to operate on-site lab, with passengers tested 72 hours before departure

I can't see any indication of them listening to me from the article you quoted. I'm not surprised as my updated email to the relevant powers hasn't gone out yet, and I doubt they're on DDF.

On a side note, it's amazing what kind of brainwashing goes on in Israel (through the general media). All they can talk about is 17,000 "Avrechim" being allowed to enter Israel. The average joe on street thinks it's some kind of preferential treatment, when there is nothing further from the truth. I just spoke to someone this morning, and after he mentioned that to me, I told him how short sighted they all are. Rather than welcoming thousands of American tourists with sensible safe policies, they are rejecting everyone. And then he tells me that he wishes he could travel out of the country, when I asked what's stopping you, he said he doesn't want to quarantine upon return.

The joke is that that based on aryeh deri's interview the number of boys for yeshivas is maybe 4000 the majority of these permits are for masa, taglit and etc. Which I'm sure bring in a fortune to local businesses, tourism and etc.

How is Germany dealing with it?

How would they deal with it for people traveling to/from "Green" countries?

How does a positive test make a difference?

Are they? What does it make a difference what they are doing? Either it is meaningful or it isn't.

If a negative test within a certain time from departure, and another upon arrival aren't sufficient, אין לדבר סוף!  And how is allowing tourists any riskier than the domestic population?

But since they're not quarantining EVERYONE then why not exclude from quarantine requirements a subset where there's reason to believe the risk is substantially lower?

I, personally, am disappointed with the way it was handled.  I certainly understand the positive economic aspects, but it still leaves a bad taste in the public's mouth.

My family is still in the U.S. and would love to visit.  They also spend plenty of money on dining, lodging, and shopping every visit.  Why should they be treated differently?
