Inter-Thailand Flights   Bangkok Airways (PG)

PG flights are bookable on points through JAL, CX, EY and AB.

JAL
Required Mileage: Transferable from SPG. JAL uses a distance based award chart and allows up to a maximum of 7 stopovers (8 segments). To figure out how many points you will need, add up the total amount of miles that will be flown (can do this on GCMap.com) and then find the appropriate row in the award chart (http://www.ar.jal.com/ar/en/jalmile/use/partner_air/p_jmb/jmb_mile_ar.html). If you are traveling before 3/31/2017 there is a promotion for trips up to 4,000 miles (see http://www.jal.co.jp/121campaign/pg_discount/index_en.html for reduced mileage rates). The promotion makes JAL the best award redemption option for PG flights.

Booking the Flight: The only way to find out if there is availability on the flight that you want is to call JAL. Recommended that you do so before transferring points. JAL doesn't allow you to hold a reservation so you have to hope that the flight doesn't get booked up while you're waiting for the point transfer to go through. Once the points post to your JAL account, call JAL back to book.
+1 800-525-3663 (5:00 - 18:00 PT) press 1 - 4 - JAL membership number - # - pin - # - 0 (for human or 1 for computer search)

Traveling with Infant: Tell JAL that you are flying with a lap child. They will put the infant on the reservation, but they will also tell you that you need to call PG directly to get the infant's ticket issued and pay for any taxes etc. JAL will only charge you for the adults on the reservation. Unless you speak Thai, calling PG won't work (when you press 9 for English when calling any of the Asian offices, the message will tell you to go to their website, and the office in Germany can't issue tickets). To add the infant, send an email to reservation@bangkokair.com with your confirmation number and tell them you want to have the lap infant's ticket issued. They will email you back with the price (data point: it was ~$96USD for CNX-USM-HKG for me) and ask you to reply with your cc info split into two separate emails for security (one email with first 8 digits, exp. and name on card, second email with last 8 digits, cvv, and billing address). I believe they only take Visa or MC. You'll then get an email back with confirmation.

Baggage Allowance: Economy passengers are allowed 20kg, infants (and dolls) are allowed 10kg. Excess weight on domestic flights will incur a charge of 80thb ($2.25ish) per kilo. International overage fee chart can be found here. Join the PG FlyingBonus program to receive an additional 10kg.

Contacting PG: In general, if you have any questions, the only way to speak with them in English besides email is PG Live Chat. You can find the link if you log in to your Flyer Bonus account. Chat reps are very helpful.

IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE TO PAY (JAL AND PG) WITH A CC BELONGING TO SOMEONE THAT IS TRAVELING ON THE ITINERARY. PG WILL SOMETIMES ASK YOU TO SHOW THE CC USED TO PAY FOR THE TRIP WHEN YOU CHECK IN, AND RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DENY BOARDING IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT.

So my trip is coming up in about a month, and I have a lot of small questions to ask so hope I don't annoy everyone by posting here as I think of them. The couple I have now:

1) Best place to exchange money at CNX, and will the rate there be the same as in the city, or higher?
2) Same question for HKT.
3) How much money will I need to exchange. I heard most tours don't take credit card. Just want to know what to bring from the US. Is there a certain bank account I should open now in the US to be able to take out money for free in Thailand?
4) How far a walk from the Le Meridien in CNX is the Chabad?
5) Although I know general consensus here is to not stay in Phuket, we are staying there, at the Holiday Inn Resort. Chabad said it was about 1/2 hour walk. Has anyone here done the walk, and is it easy?
6) Are there any tours here that one would recommend to book in advance. I see most just hire a driver, but we may take some guided tours as well.
7) Has anyone had any electrical issues with their electronics at big hotels?
8) Most economical way to get from airport to hotel in CNX and HKT, and same for the return trip to the airport.
9) We're on a cell phone plan which we can't use overseas. What's our best option for renting a phone for 2 weeks. Rent in US from somewhere, or rent there? We don't necessarily need one,  but it'd be nice to have if it was cheap enough. Same question but with calling cards instead of cell phone.

Thanks!

I am very disappointed. You apparently feel that we all wrote up HORRIBLE  tr  and you won't even read them. :P I can prob say every q of urs is answered but I'll answer then.

The best rate I got was in cnx airport to be honest. Realize ur dealing with pennies when it comes to exchange. Just take cash and exchange 200 at a clip. Its easier. Yes there are ATM's but why be so busy. If u don't mind then just pay the 3$ for convinence.

I took a taxi from CNx to lmcnx. Its around a 13 min drive. Do not hire one before hand. Just go out of the gate,Exchange money and next to that get a taxi.

It should cost around 120 baht (4$ or so). Take his number and hire to drive u around if u want. Like I wrote, I liked 669 yisroels driver 'yogev'. He was maybe 2$ more but he was hooked up in all the places and new what to do.

Chabad in cnx is a 12 min walk from lmcm. There's this amazing website which DOES work in NY and Thialand called Google. They have a mapping system. Google the damn thing. But go out of the hotel make aright and quick left. One full block up make a left and a quick right. And bear left And walk. Bam! All by heart. Booya. :). Or ask.

Next door to chance is 669 tours Yisroel. If u have an iPhone 5 across the street a drop down the block from chabad is a electronic guy he has iPhone 5 Sims. Otherwise go into 7-11.

A Taxi from hkt to patong will be more expensive being that everything there is more. I didn't reserve anything before hand. A day before in the hotel I reserved a phi phi island trip

I think that's all U asked for.
If you have any questions please search and then ask. PM me for detailed help.

2. We are planning on staying at the Conrad, what did people do for food? Did you order in from Chabad or drive there, and how long a drive is it ( we plan on renting a car based on the stuff we heard about taxi's there)?

The chabad is about a half hour drive from CKS, perhaps a bit less.

I personally rented a car.

So I'm still not sure how I pulled it off but I think I'm going to be at the Conrad monday - wednesday. Any specific things worth knowing about, aside from requesting kosher breakfast?

I'm considering renting a car, but not sure if its totally worth it. I hear cabs to the CKS are expensive, and that it's pretty isolated, but I'm not sure how much I'll be wanting to leave those two days anyway.

Chabad. We became very close with the Chef and the Food and Beverage manager.

So they brought food in an heated it there? Or did you pick it up and just ask prepare it yourself? How is getting food on the island otherwise? Are there any normal products you can get at the grocery store, or is it pretty much Chabad restaurant only?

Also if we're planning on going to Koh Tao for a night or two, did anyone have experience packing and bringing food with them from the Chabad?

Thanks to everyone for all their help, we're super excited about our trip!

Not sure if it helps, but i emailed CKS and they said they can get you kosher food (assuming Chabad) and serve it to you.

Warm greeting from Conrad Koh Samui, thank you very much for your information regarding the Kosher food.

We are well aware regarding your food restriction. Usually if our guest require to have Kosher food, we can arrange accordingly.

However you would need to let us know in advance for your whole stay schedule, on where would like that to have lunch and dinner for those day.

We have altogether 3 restaruant, Jahn, for Fine Dinning Thai (dinner only)

Zest for all day dinning (breakfast, lunch and dinner, Thai and Western)

Azure for pizza and burger (lunch and dinner)

We can prepare separate, brand new, equipment for your food and order a Kosher food from outside. For the charge, we will have to charge you the real price of meat from the Kosher place and the surcharge of THB300 per dish for cooking. This is for lunch and dinner.

As for the breakfast we charge THB1050++ per person as a regular price same as other, but you will have special Kosher food instead.
I emailed them back for clarification on actual food pricing, but nothing yet.

Yeah they emailed me pretty much the same thing. We also talked to the chabad, and they said the basically just take the food and heat it up. Seems a little steep at a per dish price. I wonder if its just better to buy the stuff on our own and bring it. Unless it comes presented nicely on the beach or sometime, I'm not sure of the value. And for the prices I'm guessing its just the chabad menu's pricing.

The breakfast is free if you're hilton gold btw.

Keep in mind that Chabad can usually deliver.
For me, it was around $80 for what was an almost 2 hour drive.
