Inter-Thailand Flights   Bangkok Airways (PG)

PG flights are bookable on points through JAL, CX, EY and AB.

JAL
Required Mileage: Transferable from SPG. JAL uses a distance based award chart and allows up to a maximum of 7 stopovers (8 segments). To figure out how many points you will need, add up the total amount of miles that will be flown (can do this on GCMap.com) and then find the appropriate row in the award chart (http://www.ar.jal.com/ar/en/jalmile/use/partner_air/p_jmb/jmb_mile_ar.html). If you are traveling before 3/31/2017 there is a promotion for trips up to 4,000 miles (see http://www.jal.co.jp/121campaign/pg_discount/index_en.html for reduced mileage rates). The promotion makes JAL the best award redemption option for PG flights.

Booking the Flight: The only way to find out if there is availability on the flight that you want is to call JAL. Recommended that you do so before transferring points. JAL doesn't allow you to hold a reservation so you have to hope that the flight doesn't get booked up while you're waiting for the point transfer to go through. Once the points post to your JAL account, call JAL back to book.
+1 800-525-3663 (5:00 - 18:00 PT) press 1 - 4 - JAL membership number - # - pin - # - 0 (for human or 1 for computer search)

Traveling with Infant: Tell JAL that you are flying with a lap child. They will put the infant on the reservation, but they will also tell you that you need to call PG directly to get the infant's ticket issued and pay for any taxes etc. JAL will only charge you for the adults on the reservation. Unless you speak Thai, calling PG won't work (when you press 9 for English when calling any of the Asian offices, the message will tell you to go to their website, and the office in Germany can't issue tickets). To add the infant, send an email to reservation@bangkokair.com with your confirmation number and tell them you want to have the lap infant's ticket issued. They will email you back with the price (data point: it was ~$96USD for CNX-USM-HKG for me) and ask you to reply with your cc info split into two separate emails for security (one email with first 8 digits, exp. and name on card, second email with last 8 digits, cvv, and billing address). I believe they only take Visa or MC. You'll then get an email back with confirmation.

Baggage Allowance: Economy passengers are allowed 20kg, infants (and dolls) are allowed 10kg. Excess weight on domestic flights will incur a charge of 80thb ($2.25ish) per kilo. International overage fee chart can be found here. Join the PG FlyingBonus program to receive an additional 10kg.

Contacting PG: In general, if you have any questions, the only way to speak with them in English besides email is PG Live Chat. You can find the link if you log in to your Flyer Bonus account. Chat reps are very helpful.

IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE TO PAY (JAL AND PG) WITH A CC BELONGING TO SOMEONE THAT IS TRAVELING ON THE ITINERARY. PG WILL SOMETIMES ASK YOU TO SHOW THE CC USED TO PAY FOR THE TRIP WHEN YOU CHECK IN, AND RESERVE THE RIGHT TO DENY BOARDING IF YOU DON'T HAVE IT.

I was in CNX for basically the same time as you, but you have a bit more time, so you can add suits and golden triangle.

Thanks. The extra time reading this may be the charm.

Been quite a few months to get to this point (sitting in the Swiss lounge staring at our Asiana plane and our OZ F suites). Thanks to you and everyone else for all the insight.

He has been crawling all over the carpeted Swiss lounge floor. Not to sound racist in the slightest, but Asians LOVE babies!! (First we had some women come over while we were checking in and then we had another straggler come by and was taking pictures of the kid. She even asked my wife to take a picture of her with the baby on her phone!)

Dude, just WAIT till you get to Asia. When they see a "light" baby, they go crazy.

Especially if the kid is blonde and has light eyes.

Happened to us 2 years ago. Could barely make it through the night market with our blonde 2 month old.
I didn't garner nearly as much attention.

That's what the CNX shliach told me as well.  Happy I made my kapota in HKG and not CNX on my RTW.
Save your time, I don't answer PM. Post it in the forum and a dedicated DDF'er will get back to you as soon as possible.

Moishebatchy, you may want to check out a Thai boxing fight.
If you're looking for a day trip:
The golden triangle is nice once you're there you can take a nice 10 minute boat ride to Loas and check out the market place there, but there's nothing in Myanmar.

Since I have no plans of visiting CM in the near future I'll share with u some info about possibly the only tailor worth considering. When I first started going to Thailand I did a lot of research and found out most tailors in Chiang Mai are fronts for the same sweatshops which have poor quality and in many cases cannot actually make truly custom bespoke tailoring.

There is one exception however Neramit tailor.. Walking past the shop you would never consider going in as it looks like a.... Tailor. No fancy stuff just a few workers and the owner who is a professional Chinese tailor. He actually cuts a template from paper prior to making the suit and does a great job. Shirts are a waste of time but the suits he made (and kapota) for me were very good (opening sleeve buttons, nice stitching, great cut)

Another trick is to buy fabric in advance in the states and being it there for him to do..

http://www.neramit-custom-tailoring.com

There goes my tailor... :)

When I first started going to CM in 2002 was unheard of to see frum ppl other than the odd Israeli couple... Now it's a different world..

Still keeping a spot or two for myself..

If you plan on visiting him lemme know..

Okay, people, I need a little help. I'm a bit embarrassed, but it seems like I may need a bit of spoon feeding on this one. :-[

I need help planning an itinerary in Chiang Mai from a given Thursday afternoon until the Wednesday night following it (6.5 days, basically). And please don't answer, "well you could do the Tiger Kingdom, and the elephant show, etc..." - that's not what I'm looking for; I've read a shockingly large amount of this thread in a very short time, so I know most of the activities. My question is about timing and scheduling - can anyone help me figure out what to do on which day?
Things I want to do, in no particular order:
Get fitted for a suit (or more than one? ;))
Tiger Kingdom
Elephant Show
Elephant riding
Rafting
Cooking school
ATVing/Segway/Bike
Monkey show
Crocodile show (maybe?)
Markets (Night, Saturday, Sunday, etc.)
Day trip somewhere, maybe (Chiang Rai?)

Things NOT to do:
Snake show. :o

Can anyone please help me with the planning? Also, did I miss anything that is a "must-see" or "must-do"?

Thanks in advance!

I respectfully disagree with rots, I think the sat night market is definitely worth a visit - nice vibe and some people doing some street shows sometimes.. Definitely a more pleasant walk then regular night market

Flight of the Gibbon is also a fun day activity

You can take an overnight trip to Pai abt 3 hrs away it's in the mountains not much to do other then rent motor bikes there explore the country side and visit hot springs. Also has a nice elephant camp where you ride bareback and then go in the river and have them throw u off into the water

I actually appreciate it! Sounds weird but thank you. (Honest)

I def understand what you are saying. I just felt that it was long and drawn out. I would rather have gone only to the Sunday night market than to both. But I had to go to both. :) Like I said once u get into the market it goes on for a long time so be ready. Maybe my wife and I weren't ready for a long night like that. BUT you are right. Cool random shows and def a lot to buy.

The tailoring without the fabric was about $150 if I recall correctly but it was a few years ago...
