Flight options.

There is 2 Airports serving Iguassu (Iguazu, Iguaçu) Falls, IGU on the Brazilian side and IGR on the Argentinian side.
See here for a map of airports connecting to IGU and IGR  forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=3052.msg1363094#msg1363094

When searching for award availability search first to connecting  airports as for example, from NYC VIA Brazil search

LAN thru Lima Peru (cheapest option usually) Oneworld (BA Shows Lan)
JFK-GIG  on Tam (BA.com) and/or AA (AA.com)
JFK- GRU AA, Delta
EWR-GRU UA
COPA airlines flies thru Panama City and GRU (usually 2 stops)

Argentina options

Aerolineas Argentina JFK-EZE
LAN Argentina

Hotels
Belmont in the Brazilian side of the park
Sheraton Iguazu in the Argentina side of the park. (SPG)
Park Hyatt Iguacu Falls coming soon!

Major Activities

The Argentinian side is more up-close and personal.
You will need to walk both the upper and lower trail on the Argentina side. The upper will take about an hour, the lower about 2. Make sure to do the boat ride on the lower trail for the most awesome views. You will get soaked so take along a ziplock for your camera. You can also take the train to Devils point

The Brazillian side is more of a panorama view.
On the Brazil side at the falls there is less walking as you are not next to the falls like on the Argentina side but rather across the river from them. You will take a tram to the start of the trail on the Brazil side and just walk along side the falls, starting from the pink hotel till the end. When you get to the end is when you will be totally blown away. Walk out on the boardwalk and you will get the most amazing view of the falls.

Bird park well worth about an hour

Helicopter tour on the Brazillian side (Argentina band it as its not Eco friendly)

There is a  huge dam you can tour that powers all of Paraguay and huge portions of Brazil and Argentina

Airport Transfer Options

Cabs are available at fairly cheap from both airports to the park and hotels (cross border too)

Iguassu (Iguazu, Iguaçu) Falls Master Thread
« on: July 02, 2010, 10:14:33 AM »
Iguassu Falls needs at least 2 days.
This is nothing like Niagara.
It's smack in the middle of rainforest and it's so much bigger and prettier.

The Argentinian side is more up-close and personal.  You can hike to all different points in the park, stand right on top of the "devil's throat" and it's all very awesome and much more "natural" than the tourist trap of Niagara.

The Brazillian side is more of a panorama view, but there is also lots of great hiking around to beautiful vistas there as well.
I was at Iguassu in my pre-SPG days so I stayed on the 1 hotel on the Brazilian side in the park (which gives you a huge time advantage over the tourist staying outside of the park.)
Of course now I would just save the money and stay at the Sheraton in the Argentinean side of the park.

There is a also a huge dam you can tour that powers all of Paraguay and huge portions of Brazil and Argentina, but I'd already seen the Hoover so I skipped that.

I took a taxi from the Brazil side to the Argentina side, he waited there all day for me, and we stopped off at an excellent duty-free per his recommendation where I got Blue Label for $80, and then we went back.  The taxi was like $75.  He offered to take me to a flea market in Paraguay for another $25.  I wasn't interested in wasting time there, although I did kind've want the passport stamp...but there just wasn't time to go in the end.

Huh? We're looking for somewhere to go, this seems nice.

AF availability to PPT is very tempting, but thats too big a trip.

Now BA.com refuses to recognize IGR, which would be the best way to get there from EZE, where theres a beautiful EWR-EZE redeye tomorrow.

Check aerolineas argentinas

I know, but problematic with AFs <24hour policy

This Sheraton is rather expensive at 16k/night. Better to pay the $300/night cash rate...

Except they don't work now...

Anyway, any other ideas of for a Fri-Sun getaway other than Hawaii? Must be very scenic and relaxing. Not USA domestic. Would do Halifax and the cobalt trail but thats schedule for later...
