Flight options.

There is 2 Airports serving Iguassu (Iguazu, Iguaçu) Falls, IGU on the Brazilian side and IGR on the Argentinian side.
See here for a map of airports connecting to IGU and IGR  forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=3052.msg1363094#msg1363094

When searching for award availability search first to connecting  airports as for example, from NYC VIA Brazil search

LAN thru Lima Peru (cheapest option usually) Oneworld (BA Shows Lan)
JFK-GIG  on Tam (BA.com) and/or AA (AA.com)
JFK- GRU AA, Delta
EWR-GRU UA
COPA airlines flies thru Panama City and GRU (usually 2 stops)

Argentina options

Aerolineas Argentina JFK-EZE
LAN Argentina

Hotels
Belmont in the Brazilian side of the park
Sheraton Iguazu in the Argentina side of the park. (SPG)
Park Hyatt Iguacu Falls coming soon!

Major Activities

The Argentinian side is more up-close and personal.
You will need to walk both the upper and lower trail on the Argentina side. The upper will take about an hour, the lower about 2. Make sure to do the boat ride on the lower trail for the most awesome views. You will get soaked so take along a ziplock for your camera. You can also take the train to Devils point

The Brazillian side is more of a panorama view.
On the Brazil side at the falls there is less walking as you are not next to the falls like on the Argentina side but rather across the river from them. You will take a tram to the start of the trail on the Brazil side and just walk along side the falls, starting from the pink hotel till the end. When you get to the end is when you will be totally blown away. Walk out on the boardwalk and you will get the most amazing view of the falls.

Bird park well worth about an hour

Helicopter tour on the Brazillian side (Argentina band it as its not Eco friendly)

There is a  huge dam you can tour that powers all of Paraguay and huge portions of Brazil and Argentina

Airport Transfer Options

Cabs are available at fairly cheap from both airports to the park and hotels (cross border too)

not going to IGR, no time,
 GIG instead
ATM"s at the airport?
do the attractions take CC?
Airport must have ATM somewhere. The NP takes cc for sure.
Insane.
+10000. If you have no time spend it in Argentina and skip Brazil.

can brazil be done in the AM (walks and Macuco boats) and ARG in the Afternoon? (gonna add a good couple hundred with visa and taxis and park re-entry. but i guess you may only do it once)
Trip advisor is saying there can be long border waits (although maybe only on weekends)

The Brazil side can be done in 2 hours (walking, 3 max). You can do the Argentina side in 3-4 if you just walk, a bit longer if you take a boat ride on that side instead, which is nicer since you can actually go under the falls. We had good luck with the boat tours in November, but sometimes the river is too high and the rides are cancelled.  We didn't experience any waits at the border on either side on a weekday in early November, but YMMV. Why not stay in the Sheraton on the Argentinian side and start there early in the morning?

Also keep in mind there's a 1 hour difference between the two sides in November when Brazil observes DST and Argentina doesn't. Read my TR for more details on how we did both sides.

Belmond already paid for... I saw your TR... Thanx again for the work you put into it
Is there really a difference which side you do the boats on?

The Brazil side can't go under the falls since most of them are in Argentina, and they have to stay on their side of the river. The falls that are in Brazil are too large to get near on a boat.

We had that with the San Martin Island ferry. Do they cancel the falls boat tours as well?

I imagine so, though we just booked at the Sheraton a couple hours before the tour, so they knew it wouldn't be cancelled at that point.

They definitely don't go hand in hand. When we were there, the ferry was canceled because of the river, but we still went on the falls boat tour.

IIRC, it's due to the landing on San Martin that is only accessible when the river is on the lower side.

What about traveling with an infant and a 2 year? Boat ride possible? Hiking possible? if not, is there anything to do at the falls that is family friendly? which side is better?

Both sides are mostly stroller friendly are provide their own unique views/experience.

Don't see why a boat ride wouldn't be possible, especially with a baby carrier.

Boat rides with kids are generally not allowed by operators. Hiking usually seem to be impossible with a stroller, but if you say both are OK, great.

+1 to kids not being allowed on boat rides. These aren't the Maid of the Mist boats; they're more  like zodiacs.

+1. The "hikes" on either side are really just paved (on the Brazilian side) or metal walkways (Argentinian side), so it's pretty wheelchair accessible and just fine for strollers.

Good to know, didn't even attempt to do it with the kids.
Had just done MOTM a couple months earlier and the kids weren't amused by it.

I noticed that there were options to climb stairs on the lower trail, but also alternate options to go around if you need to.
