Flight options.

There is 2 Airports serving Iguassu (Iguazu, Iguaçu) Falls, IGU on the Brazilian side and IGR on the Argentinian side.
See here for a map of airports connecting to IGU and IGR  forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=3052.msg1363094#msg1363094

When searching for award availability search first to connecting  airports as for example, from NYC VIA Brazil search

LAN thru Lima Peru (cheapest option usually) Oneworld (BA Shows Lan)
JFK-GIG  on Tam (BA.com) and/or AA (AA.com)
JFK- GRU AA, Delta
EWR-GRU UA
COPA airlines flies thru Panama City and GRU (usually 2 stops)

Argentina options

Aerolineas Argentina JFK-EZE
LAN Argentina

Hotels
Belmont in the Brazilian side of the park
Sheraton Iguazu in the Argentina side of the park. (SPG)
Park Hyatt Iguacu Falls coming soon!

Major Activities

The Argentinian side is more up-close and personal.
You will need to walk both the upper and lower trail on the Argentina side. The upper will take about an hour, the lower about 2. Make sure to do the boat ride on the lower trail for the most awesome views. You will get soaked so take along a ziplock for your camera. You can also take the train to Devils point

The Brazillian side is more of a panorama view.
On the Brazil side at the falls there is less walking as you are not next to the falls like on the Argentina side but rather across the river from them. You will take a tram to the start of the trail on the Brazil side and just walk along side the falls, starting from the pink hotel till the end. When you get to the end is when you will be totally blown away. Walk out on the boardwalk and you will get the most amazing view of the falls.

Bird park well worth about an hour

Helicopter tour on the Brazillian side (Argentina band it as its not Eco friendly)

There is a  huge dam you can tour that powers all of Paraguay and huge portions of Brazil and Argentina

Airport Transfer Options

Cabs are available at fairly cheap from both airports to the park and hotels (cross border too)

ok thanks. well only be staying one night and going to rio the next night hopefully, but i hope that will be fine. thanks for your help.
If you only have one night in Iguazu, I would get there early and explore the Argentinian side that day and the morning of the following day. You really only need an hour or two on the Brazilian side, but you can stretch it to more if you needed to.

Do the helicopter tour as well if you can. Its only 100pp and is the only way to get a full perspective on the size of the falls.

And keep in mind you can only do that from Brazil.

Or the Gran Aventura from the Argentinian side which is basically the same thing for cheaper. I think it was 360 pesos per person, so for us that was $36 USD.

Nope it keeps on getting stronger. It is under 2.2 now to the dollar. Was over 2.4 this year.

Should be, but we took a 1:00pm from AEP and that was also fine. Eze is just a pain to get to compared with AEP.

We took the same exact flight too. But remember still gotta come early to aep cuz big mess there.

trying to plan a visit to the falls, and trying to figure out schedule. ive seen here that 2-3 days is ideal, but wondering if needs to be two full days or if arriving later morning monday and leaving early evening wednesday (6:10pm from IGU) is enough. have to decide between a brutally early 5:35AM flight from AEP that gets into IGR at 7:10 AM or a slightly more normal 8AM flight from EZE that gets in at about 10AM.  (I guess part of it will also depend on whether EZE is significantly more annoying/expensive to get to and fly out of when staying at park hyatt there. I see its a 1/2 hour further, can anyone weigh in on whether that should be an important factor?)
TIA

Something's off here. If you'll be arriving Monday and leaving Wednesday you'll be there two nights.

You're right. I meant leaving Tuesday night. Sorry bout that. Thanks for all the other comments- gunnu look into some of the options then come back here to finalize plans. Think AEP will be a mess even at 530am?

Probably. It's more about how the airport is run than the fact that there are more people there. When we were there, they had people line up based on the flight they were taking, not just the airline. They took one flight at a time, so you might be standing in line for 30 minutes with them serving no one from your line but once they start taking people from your line it goes quicker.

In that case I would definitely suggest you take the early flight and spend 3 more hours at the falls. You won't regret it.

We flew from AEP on a 9:00 AM flight and had a quite average wait, so I guess it's YMMV.

You should definately take the earlier flight and head straight to the falls. They open at 8am.

You'll need cash for a bus or cab from the National Park to the airport and that's it. You can pay the entrance fee with CC. There's a gift shop on the left side of the road shortly after entering Brazil that our cab driver stopped at. They have a money changing counter. Don't think about changing pesos though. Reais are with a lot more and they have no interest in pesos. The US dollar rate was very good though.
