Flight options.

There is 2 Airports serving Iguassu (Iguazu, Iguaçu) Falls, IGU on the Brazilian side and IGR on the Argentinian side.
See here for a map of airports connecting to IGU and IGR  forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=3052.msg1363094#msg1363094

When searching for award availability search first to connecting  airports as for example, from NYC VIA Brazil search

LAN thru Lima Peru (cheapest option usually) Oneworld (BA Shows Lan)
JFK-GIG  on Tam (BA.com) and/or AA (AA.com)
JFK- GRU AA, Delta
EWR-GRU UA
COPA airlines flies thru Panama City and GRU (usually 2 stops)

Argentina options

Aerolineas Argentina JFK-EZE
LAN Argentina

Hotels
Belmont in the Brazilian side of the park
Sheraton Iguazu in the Argentina side of the park. (SPG)
Park Hyatt Iguacu Falls coming soon!

Major Activities

The Argentinian side is more up-close and personal.
You will need to walk both the upper and lower trail on the Argentina side. The upper will take about an hour, the lower about 2. Make sure to do the boat ride on the lower trail for the most awesome views. You will get soaked so take along a ziplock for your camera. You can also take the train to Devils point

The Brazillian side is more of a panorama view.
On the Brazil side at the falls there is less walking as you are not next to the falls like on the Argentina side but rather across the river from them. You will take a tram to the start of the trail on the Brazil side and just walk along side the falls, starting from the pink hotel till the end. When you get to the end is when you will be totally blown away. Walk out on the boardwalk and you will get the most amazing view of the falls.

Bird park well worth about an hour

Helicopter tour on the Brazillian side (Argentina band it as its not Eco friendly)

There is a  huge dam you can tour that powers all of Paraguay and huge portions of Brazil and Argentina

Airport Transfer Options

Cabs are available at fairly cheap from both airports to the park and hotels (cross border too)

Agree with doing EZE first.
Look at TAM, AR, and LAN.

There are also a few interesting 5th freedom routes. Notably Turkish and Qatar from GRU to EZE, and Emirates from GIG to EZE.

Also LAN doesn't fly RIO to BUE. You have 4 option: AR, G3, JJ and EK.

Nothing doing.

Maybe instead do GIG-GRU-IGU-GRU?

I can do all on GOL
GIG-GRU Sunday morning
GRU-IGU (either Monday really late-kid's suicide or Tuesday late afternoon, later than I want to go...)
IGU-GIG Wednesday evening to catch flight back to JFK.

Thoughts?
Not really going to Argentina at all, other than in IGU. Can I just stay on the Brazilian side so I don't have to pay the reciprocity fee? Would that be a crime?
In that case would it make sense to go Tuesday late afternoon? If so, would you do an extra day in Rio or Sao Paulo?

Not sure, BUE is better than GRU. Seeing great availability in BIZ from GRU to EZE on Turkish for 4 passengers almost every day. Also some dates on BA with JJ, QR.

Would be a crime to do IGU and not IGR.

Arrive in GIG Thursday morning.
Sunday morning GIG-GRU
Sunday night GRU-EZE
Tuesday morning EZE-IGR
IGU-GIG-JFK Wednesday night

Too much flying. How else could I do this?

TK is the better product.
IIRC, the timing is bad for flying with kids.

You have good amount of time in GIG and IGU. But EZE and GRU both seems too short. Keep in mind Jewish area in SP is about an hour from GRU.

The way there (GRU-EZE) timing is bad but not terrible. The way back it is torture.

I know. I would extend my stay till after shabbos but can't find a way out of south america other than Dec 31.

Right now the only realistic itinerary is GOG-GRU-IGU-GIG but I'll keep working at it

So to be clear dates-wise, what are the dates you can travel?

Found a way out of South America but doesn't go all the way to US or Canada :(

Closest I got was, Sunday Jan 4th early 6am from GRU to PTY, and then PTY to either SJU or CUN. Availability for 4 people on CM in J.

Thanks for looking.
Looks like I'm stuck dec 24-31

I think I'd sooner not go than do this
Arrive in GIG Thursday morning.
Sunday morning GIG-GRU
Sunday night GRU-EZE
Tuesday morning EZE-IGR
IGU-GIG-JFK Wednesday night

Question is it worth it to do this

GRU-IGU (either Monday really late-kid's suicide or Tuesday late afternoon, later than I want to go...)
IGU-GIG Wednesday evening to catch flight back to JFK.

Not worth it to go to IGU without going to IGR IMHO. So if you are fine paying $640 for visa fees for your one days there, than it seems good.

I guess I'll discuss it with the wife. Also, that late night Monday night flight may be a deal breaker...
I really want to go to EZE though...
