Flight options.

There is 2 Airports serving Iguassu (Iguazu, Iguaçu) Falls, IGU on the Brazilian side and IGR on the Argentinian side.
See here for a map of airports connecting to IGU and IGR  forums.dansdeals.com/index.php?topic=3052.msg1363094#msg1363094

When searching for award availability search first to connecting  airports as for example, from NYC VIA Brazil search

LAN thru Lima Peru (cheapest option usually) Oneworld (BA Shows Lan)
JFK-GIG  on Tam (BA.com) and/or AA (AA.com)
JFK- GRU AA, Delta
EWR-GRU UA
COPA airlines flies thru Panama City and GRU (usually 2 stops)

Argentina options

Aerolineas Argentina JFK-EZE
LAN Argentina

Hotels
Belmont in the Brazilian side of the park
Sheraton Iguazu in the Argentina side of the park. (SPG)
Park Hyatt Iguacu Falls coming soon!

Major Activities

The Argentinian side is more up-close and personal.
You will need to walk both the upper and lower trail on the Argentina side. The upper will take about an hour, the lower about 2. Make sure to do the boat ride on the lower trail for the most awesome views. You will get soaked so take along a ziplock for your camera. You can also take the train to Devils point

The Brazillian side is more of a panorama view.
On the Brazil side at the falls there is less walking as you are not next to the falls like on the Argentina side but rather across the river from them. You will take a tram to the start of the trail on the Brazil side and just walk along side the falls, starting from the pink hotel till the end. When you get to the end is when you will be totally blown away. Walk out on the boardwalk and you will get the most amazing view of the falls.

Bird park well worth about an hour

Helicopter tour on the Brazillian side (Argentina band it as its not Eco friendly)

There is a  huge dam you can tour that powers all of Paraguay and huge portions of Brazil and Argentina

Airport Transfer Options

Cabs are available at fairly cheap from both airports to the park and hotels (cross border too)

Remember that most of July this year is the 3 weeks/9 days.
Isn't July also the winter there?

Remember that most of July this year is the 3 weeks/9 days.

The 9 days is when people don't travel. That only starts on July 17th this year.

I'll book Priceline, then I have 24 hours to decide if I'm crazy or not.

Remember you need two visas (at a cost if $320) to visit both sides

I know. So I get to weigh that plus my phobia to commit six months in advance against my desire to see IGU.
It's gonna be a fun 27 hours :P

Lol :) - How long of a stay did you book for there? If you did a few extra days you can always do some avios hopping on LAN/TAM once you paid those fees anyway, some great cities to go to.

BsAs and Rio are both nice. SP has the nicest Jewish community but not many sights. There are lots more, but those are the biggest ones. Also keep in mind that BsAs is colder in their winter than Rio.

Good luck! Feel free to ask as many questions to make your decision easier. As someone who has booked 2 trips now 6+ months out it really is not bad. Actually, it adds to the excitement with 6  months of anticipation and planning.

Curitiba is a beautiful city, - and the most well-run in Brazil - is not too far away only a couple hundred miles. You can read my TR in the Brazil thread. Rio and Sao Paulo are both IMO musts, - Yes SP too.  Especially if you have extra time to drive along the coast from Sao Paulo (Santos) to Rio, it is IMO a nicer drive than the PCH in California. Buenos Aires is great place for a few days. And those are all nonstop options to IGU, with a stop you open up to so many more amazing places.

Sale is still there, minus a few dates. Wonder why this didn't make it to DD.. Still seeing $424 roundtrip from LAX. I'm sure others working as well.
